As a Metairie native who experienced Katrina at 12 years old, my first memories of swamp room was sitting in their parking lot while my mom ran in to get burgers for us, as they were one of the first food-serving places opened after the storm. As an adult, I frequented the old location many times and enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food. That said, this was my first visit to their location on Green Acres and Veterans, and I am absolutely appalled by the service I received. My partner planned a date night and we walked in expecting to spend a few hours with drinks, appetizer, and meals. The place was packed with some sort of semi-private party and the bartender acknowledged us twice before taking our order (I was understanding considering the business). But when a couple walked up to the bar and she served them first, I was annoyed. My partner and I then watched two other people, who had walked up after us get served before us. At this point we were irritated. Eventually our order was taken. We ordered the mini tacos and a drink each. When our tacos came out, the server knocked the plate into the coke back my partner was drinking, soaking her dress. He made no attempt to offer napkins or apologize. At the same time, my partner tried to ask for the jalapeƱo ranch that we ordered alongside the tacos and before she could get the sentence out, he interrupted by saying it would be out soon (not paying attention to what she said). When she repeated herself, he finally caught on and retrieved the cup of ranch for us. After this insanity, we decided to cut our evening short and skip ordering the burgers I had raved about. We requested the check; the bartender (different from who originally served us) asked for the last name on the tab. We hadnāt given the original person the last name and it was rung up on the other register. My partner, with the intention of being helpful, tried to explain this and the bartender waved her hand and walked off while she was mid-sentence). She gave us the check, we paid and left. The service was a disgrace. Overall, the entire experience was awful, and Iām sad to say that swamp room has lost my business forever. Iāll stick to lamplighter. The menu is smaller, but the food is good, the drinks are cheap, and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am writing to discuss an unpleasant experience that happened the other day when I was at your place with a couple of my friends.
We decided to grab a bite and enjoy some quality time together. They both ordered your famous swamp burgers, while I decided to opt for a healthier option, a salad with salmon. It was not a busy day as such and we expected a swift service.
However, things didn't quite go the way we anticipated. My friends received their burgers in no time, whereas I was left waiting for my order. Every passing minute felt excruciatingly long as I watched them dive into their scrumptious burgers while all I had to kill my hunger was water.
The point of contention here is not that my order was delayed, but rather that it still hadn't arrived by the time my friends finished up with their meal. Seeing them ready to leave, I had no other choice left but to cancel my order.
Imagine, for a moment, if you were in my shoes at any restaurant. Imagine waiting patiently while your friends enjoyed their meal. Imagine looking at an empty table while your stomach grumbled for food. Imagine that sinking feeling when your mates finish eating, are ready to go, and there you are - ignored and left to ask the waiter to cancel your order. How would that make you feel? Incredibly miffed, I presume. No customer should be left waiting for so long while their friends have finished their food. So, I had to express my disappointment and frustrations and hope there would be corrective measures taken to prevent such occurrences...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came here on a whim while in between NOLA Baton Rouge. I stopped for gas and happened to looked for late night eats on my ride back to Baton Rouge. This place popped up and after reading their menu and reviews I decided to order the Boudin Egg Rolls. I ordered from there takeout menu online (through Door Dash). It was easy, simple, and convenient!
I arrived near the estimated pickup time. I wasnāt intially greeted at the first bar so I went to the other side. Same thing happened so I went further down the bar. After a couple of minutes one of the bartenders greeted me and checked on my order. She said it would be a little while before food was ready. Not sure if the issue was because of ordering online or something else. Anyways, I wish I wouldāve gotten her name. She was really nice and made me feel welcome.
After approximately 15-20 minutes arriving, my food was ready to go. It was hot, fresh, and incredibly delicious! Everything I was hoping for! Crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. Their take on Sweet and Sour with heat was delightful. Those two things combined together were fantastic! If ever in town, Iāll be coming back for this.
Parking was limited but not the worst. Very busy at 9-10 pm. Establishment was really loud on the inside between the music & chatter. Booths, tablesā inside & outside, and bar area seating is available.
Overall experience was...
