First off, this is a rather fun hotel, there’s always an event being held and that adds a lot of buzz and excitement to the bar atmosphere. As far as the rooms; most of are just that, hotel rooms. Get lucky enough to get one of the updated rooms or even the presidential suite and the room ambience dramatically improves. However my hotel choices are primarily based on the hotel having a restaurant/bar. AL’s Table/ bar has a great selection of Kentuckys finest bourbon to choose from. My quarrels revolve around the misleading dinner menu, take for example “Thelma’s cast iron skillet fried chicken” There’s no cast iron skillet involved here. Or the steakhouse salad has no steak & the brisket burger doesn’t actually have brisket. Most of the menu selections I’ve tried, haven’t like hardly any mostly due the lack of consistency in plate presentation & flavor of the main aspects of whatever dish. However the side items that have been prepared to pair with each dish are banging with flavor. The best selections enjoyed here I can’t speak about as they’re off menu items. I would call this 5 star food service, the staff here is amazing and is what brings me back, trip after trip. From Christine whom I asked if she slept in a toaster, with all that bubbling energy at 6:45am to Kaylee at the host stand who always had a good book to talk about to Casey and Sharon who waited on me with a smile and even a chef or 2 who were all so unique and eager to engage with a...
Read moreNot enough servers and the host and waitress we did have were very rude. We had a party of 12; 6 were children and it was very obvious they didn’t want to serve us. We even told them we could split up into three different groups. Waited for a while to get our drinks and when we finally asked about them, waitress said in a loud voice that that is why she wasn’t ready for us to be seated yet; however, we were led back to the table by their hostess. Very embarrassing for our family. It is State Fair Week; I’m sure it is always busy there this time of year. Seems they weren’t ready for the crowd. I did address it with the waiter quietly and then she blamed the family sitting behind us. By the time I got to the buffet, barely any food left. But yes, I did still leave a tip as normal. We always eat there on Sunday morning following a day at the fair. It is tradition for us. Today was our last time...
Read moreMy friend and I ate here for my birthday dinner/ the beginning of Bourbon and Beyond. While the food was good it was nothing to write home about. We had the goat cheese corn fritters with blueberry jam, and these were by far the star of the meal. I had the prime rib with broccolini and smoked gouda mac and cheese. The mac and cheese and brocolini were very good for what they were. But the prime rib was a bit cold a slightly chewy. She had the Kansas city strip which she said was very good. Our drinks were okay. The biggest down fall to our dinner was the service. Our server seemed shocked at the fact that she was sat a table, and seemed to be fairly new. It took a while to get everything to our table we waiting about 30 minutes just for our drinks. While the food was good. I dont think...
