I gave 7 total stars, which I had to round down to a 2. There's no way I could have rounded up to 3. I actually chose 1 for the total, but then when I saw the other categories, I had to be fair. Sorry, Charley's.
I'm not sure when the Preston location opened, but it has to have been recent. Based on last night, I'm not sure they should be yet.
Food and dining room condition definitely still had a practice feel, but especially the food. I couldn't even finish. Meat was dry, almost no onion, couldn't find cheese but could tell something was in there once I got to the middle, where I had to just stop, and ¼ of the roll didn't even have anything in it. The roll was okay.
It was not a good experience for me.
My cashier was really good, though. She did well enough at FOH that I was shocked about the practice food, frankly.
Here's how much I love cheesesteaks: when I was stationed in Norfolk I used to drive to Philly for one. One. Any one. The first one I found when I hit town, whatever the place was. The cheesesteak is my first "test sandwich" for anyplace that sells sandwiches and I've had them all over the country. I'm not an expert. I just love 'em. I didn't even like this one.
Couldn't finish the fries, either. Unevenly cooked and still very cold in parts.
Definitely seasoning issues (as in "not today") with the food, but for carryout at a new place, I'm cool with seasoning at home if the food is at least well put together, then going back pretty soon in case it was a fluke. There was no point in trying to season what I came home with.
I might try them again in another month or six weeks, but right now I cannot recommend. I'm not even sure yet that I will try them again. I hate writing about a place based on a single snapshot when it's bad, but last night was a doozy.
The milkshake may or may not be the thing that brings me back in to look around before deciding for sure. I know this is a chain, but it's the only one I've been to so I don't know how their shakes are supposed to be.
Vanilla is my test shake. They have vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and Oreo. They come with whipped cream on top. (And a good amount last night, too.)
I ordered vanilla, without. The vanilla flavor was good. It was thin, but they do make it right in front of you. I do know that thin shakes are a legit style and are the regional style in some places. I've had them. It could be, though, that they're counting on the whipped cream to add texture. Idk.
If it was supposed to be a thin shake, then the shake was decent. I just don't know what region Charley's is supposed to be if it is in fact regional. I never heard of them until I passed by and stopped on the spot.
They also have soft serve in cones or sundaes. I didn't get either, but they were making some cones that looked really nice. They were starting on a sundae, I think, when I left. I guess maybe I could bring the nephews...
Read moreI enjoyed the food but what i discovered today on my third visit was really disappointing. I order 10 bone in wings and I was asked if I wanted blue cheese or ranch. I replied ranch. And then asked how many come with it(in hopes of getting one blue cheese and one ranch) The young man taking my order replied, "well it doesn't come with any" I replied "The sign says two, oh, Im sorry, thats for a 20 piece. Nevermind" the young man then replied "No, thats just the boneless wings" i then replied "What do you mean?" The young man then repeated himself " only the boneless come with dipping sauce" i replied "So the people that want bone in and pay almost $5 extra to get the bone-in wings dont get a free dipping sauce?" "No mama". I would just like to say to the company thats not okay. You dont charge more for the ranch on the ultimate gourmet fries compared to the gourmet fries(ranch being the only difference at the Preston hwy location in louisville ky) but you have to pay extra to get the dipping sauce with buffalo wings. I think thats just over doing it. Needless to say I ended up getting the sauce on the side for my fries to use with my wings. I think you all at Charleys should really rethink if it makes sense to charge almost 5 more dollars for bone in wings and not provide a dipping sauce. We are more than paying for it already with the price increase for the bone-in. This could be why whenever I go the drive thru has no line. Or maybe it has nothing to do with that. Just...
Read moreWe’ve been watching this place under renovations since it transitioned from our local Taco Bell. We were not amused to see it go and bit skeptical of what would come in its place. Just happened to be driving by tonight and saw all the banners and balloons so my son and I dropped by to try it out. There was a line in drive thru and inside which are generally good signs that good will be fresh. We placed our order after couple mins got our number and sat down. As we waited we saw the owner/manager helping get the orders out to customers asap then he was walking around stopping by each table to ask how everyone’s food was and also asked if anyone had any suggestions for improvement or if they needed anything. It was a small gesture but he was clearly very sincere. Everyone in the dining room just seemed to smile and appreciate it. Our food came and was hot, fresh and delicious. We had to let it sit for couple mins to cool down enough to eat. Was it the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had? No. But was it still pretty delicious being this far from the east coast? Heck yeah! My son was already asking when we could come back before we left. As we headed to the car, we noticed the owner standing at the end of drive thru personally thanking each car as they drove by. Those points of contact, personal touch and sincerity go a LONG way. I wish them nothing but success. And we will definitely be going back. Sorry no pics, we ate it all before I...
