It's a small Airport Restaurant, in a Small Airport, what Do You expect?
So we were trying to fly out of Louisville to Chicago, during the great May winter storm of 2019. We were delayed, we were hungry, and the only thing that looked good at the time was a bourbon-themed restaurant. While the food was barely mediocre, the view and lounge area in the restaurant was great. We were able to relax and watch the private planes come in for Derby.
I ordered the Pork Baos, which were something--I'm not sure what, but there was pork encapsulated in a doughy, taco-shell-looking-thing. Take a look at the pic and help me out, please. They were overcooked and underseasoned. I also ordered the Steak Burger, which was a "house-made" patty, lettuce, tomato, bourbon-glazed onions, served on a toasted brioche bun, with fries. It was a cafeteria-grade burger at best--also over cooked. My thing is if you are going to serve mediocre food, don't try to dress it up with fancy menu descriptions and modern decorations--just be mediocre. It sucks to get let down, but I need to remember, it's an airport restaurant.
Overall, when you're in a pinch in the Louisville airport, you don't have a lot of options. So suck it up or wait to get something at your destination or connection (if...
Read moreA step above the fast food places this place is "hidden" upstairs in between the concourses. Cons: Need to go up the stairs; slow service; Pros: once you finally get service, it's pretty good; tasty food but not "great" like a sitting restaurant. I have gone there twice since I was traveling for business and needed to dine prior to my flights on separate occasions. The first time was with a group and the burgers weren't bad. The second time (today) was solo. There was a problem with the order and I had to send it back. I wasn't disappointed like most other diners would probably would be. I was kind of impressed that the waiter and chef were apologetic about the prepared dish not to my liking and got me my substitute selection (burger). The main dish was not put on my bill and I tipped pretty well to show that I wasn't scamming the place and that I was not offended having to ask to replace my original order. Turns out that the waiter was able to catch up to me in the concourse after I had left my credit card after signing the receipt. I'll try this place a third time if...
Read moreOk so here’s the deal - at noon on a Tuesday this spring, the amazing, efficient and attentive Joe was the only staff attending patrons at the Bourbon Academy Tasting Room. When I entered the restaurant we had maybe 12 patrons, but by the time I left we had a full house (not visible behind the pillars but fully seated) with only 1 table free. A support staff member came in but Joe was the sold team member handling pouring drinks (bartender) and taking payment at the counter (cashier) in addition to running food. Joe was attentive and took care of making sure I had the hot sauce I asked for. While I greatly enjoyed the smashed burger and the Bulleit Rye (a personal fav) - the cocktails are not worth it, mine had 2% alcohol. I’m from New Orleans so was duly disappointed. The venue and food were solid and well kept but shame.on.this.establishment for having one (1) single employee working a busy lunch shift. Pay your employees more and give them...
