Went to dinner with some friends last evening and we decided to try Cheddar's. It had been a while for our family, but our friends frequent the establishment quite often. A good sign about a restaurant is looking at the parking lot (more cars - usually a good sign the food is good). We went to dinner around 5:45 PM and the parking lot was packed. There were people waiting inside for a seat. Luckily our friends arrived at 5:30 and were able to get a table with a short wait. We had chips and salsa as an appetizer and they were delicious. When our chips got low, the waiter ensured that we got more chips and kept the chips plentiful. Definitely try their sweet tea - perfect flavor and not too sweet! For the meals, ordered the vegetable plate with a side salad with honey mustard dressing. For the vegetable plate, had sides of broccoli casserole, French fries, black beans and rice. The temperature of the food was perfect and the flavors were spot on. After dinner, decided to walk around as my 3 year old was intrigued by the fish tank. The restaurant has a good atmosphere inside - the fish tank was great to see as well as the fan with the unique fan blades. Overall, a great meal with friends and thanks to the staff at Cheddar's for making our dining experience memorable.

What went wrong- Restaurant hygiene is questionable. Front door glass so dirty can barely see through it, tile floor is very grungy and the restaurant has half of seating capacity shut down but for some reason put all patrons in one tiny center section. I refused to sit among 50 people in a 30x30 area when the restaurant was otherwise empty. Elected to sit in the bar which was mainly empty. I understand if they’re closing seating due to the short staffing but I would think they could at least space out the patrons and give the servers larger geographic areas to cover..especially in light of the pandemic đŸ˜· What went right- SALAD!!! This restaurant knows how to serve a proper salad. The salad bowl was icy cold and the greens were crispy and veggies fresh. I was very impressed by the salad quality. My entrĂ©e was chicken pot pie and I would say that it’s really no better than what I can buy in the freezer section at the supermarket. Service was average considering staffing issues. Don’t think I would ever go back.

Update: Maybe I'm lucky, but I always experience a tasty dinner at Cheddar's. The blackened salmon on bed of rice with broccoli, green beans, honey butter croissant and brewed tea were delicious! So glad I went there tonight! Previously: One of the best dining values in town, especially considering pandemic era and staffing at most places. Twenty years ago I regularly ate at Cheddar's and enjoyed it. Change of jobs and habits, I got away from eating there. Within the past 3 weeks I have again visited Cheddar's and enjoyed the setting, the service and two delicious meals. One meal was cajun grilled salmon on bed of rice with broccoli and green beans, and the other meal was blackened tilapia and shrimp with a garlic sauce on a bed of rice with green beans and broccoli and of course the honey butter croissant! Frankly, I find it one of the best dining values and pleasures in town! Kudos to the management and staff for providing good food in a lovely and comfortable environment.

Our experience this evening deserves a factual narrative, My apologies for the lengthy review.

This is one of a chain of similar restaurants, this review pertains only to the facility on Westport Road in Louisville.

We've been occasional customers of this establishment for years but had not been there for a few months. In the past the food and service have been mostly OK with a few minor exceptions. This evening was disappointing.

Our party of nine arrived at 5:25. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated. There were only eight chairs at the table and silverware for only six.

Our server took drink and appetizer orders promptly, and we received the last chair shortly thereafter, but not the additional silverware and napkins. My wife requested a glass of water and a cup of hot tea with honey.

One appetizer and the drinks came out within a few more minutes, but still not enough napkins or silverware and no lemons for the tea. No spoons for the iced tea either. My wife didn't receive the glass of water she had requested. She got the hot tea, but no spoon and no honey. We asked the server for these things and she acknowledged.

About half an hour after we were seated the other appetizers came out and the server took our orders for food. Still not enough silverware and napkins. Still no spoons or lemon. Still no glass of water for my wife, nor honey for her tea. We asked the server again.

More than an hour after we were seated, the he food was served. My salad was served after my steak dinner. My food was slightly warm, not hot. We still lacked enough silverware and napkins but they did finally bring lemons for the tea. Confusion ensued as the server didn't remember who had ordered what. My wife still didn't have honey for her hot tea or a spoon with which to stir it. She called this to the server's attention and requested another cup of hot tea.

Shortly after the food was served, silverware and napkins we're made available. We never did get spoons of any kind, not even a spoon for the hot tea my wife had ordered. No honey either. She never got either one. She had to ask the server for another cup of hot tea three times before she received it.

When the appetizers and salads we're finished, no one removed empty plates and bowls from the table

After we had finished eating there was excessive delay before the checks came. And the checks were not correct.

When the corrected checks arrived, there was additional delay processing credit card payment. We finally left at 7:35.

A few of us may return at some point and give this restaurant a chance to do better, but some of our party are unlikely to return.

Nice decor and an impressive fish tank are not a substitute for good service.

The Westport road location is actually my favorite Cheddar’s in Louisville, so writing this review you can imagine my disappointment. We visited this location 2/23/20 around 5:30pm. We put in an appetizer at first and it took 45 mins to come out! It was the trio sampler, and it arrived after the main course which was ordered awhile later than the app. 2 tables sat down 15 mins after we did and got their appetizers, drinks, and salads within ten mins while we were still waiting. We asked the server what was up and she blamed it on the kitchen staff. We stopped another server close by who seemed to have little if any trouble getting orders out and she said the kitchen was fine and not behind...at this point I spoke with a manager and addressed all of this as he was finally bringing out the appetizer- he could clearly see our dinner had already arrived and we still hadn’t gotten our salads and had been waiting on the appetizer. I explained to him the situation and that we weren’t happy that we’d been waiting nearly 45 mins and everything was arriving unorganized with no time to enjoy each...he flatly asked “what do you want me to do about it”, and I responded with “you’re the manager, you tell me what you’re going to do about it?”. He suggested he would have the dinner remade and brought out hot once we were ready as I explained it would be sitting there getting cold while we enjoy our appetizer that just arrived...the chicken tenders were hot and worth the wait, both the spinach and the queso dip were cold- seemed like they’d been sitting in the window awhile but we were so hungry and over service that at that point we didn’t see a need to bother the manager over it anymore and just accepted what was as we had somewhere else to be. The other guest I was with wasn’t getting a refill and it seemed maybe the waitress paid attention to her other tables that she may have made a better impression on. The salmon dinner was brought out hot, we did have to wait on the bourbon glaze we ordered but it was delicious. The server did finally admit she may have forgotten to send the appetizer originally after all the hassle and blaming of the staff. We Just weren’t happy with the overall experience of our service this particular time. The manager did not bother to check back at all and seemed very disinterested and showed little to no interest in our experience . I have had MANY other wonderful experiences at this location in the past, and I do think the food is quality for the price so we most likely will return as this does not speak for the...

Ok. I rarely write reviews but our experience warrants a response. Do not go today (09/15/19). It was four of us and we were celebrating aa birthday. We ordered. It took about 45 minutes to get our order. We did not order appetizers. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and it took 30 minutes after everyone received their drinks. The restaurant was half full. We got there at about 2:00.

I ordered a medium steak. I received and over done well done top sirloin. My sister ordered chicken strips with a loaded baked potato with no sour cream. She had us all taste he chicken. It tasted like it was cooked with the fish my dad ordered. He loved his fish and French fries. When she told the server that the chicken strips did not taste right. He asked did it taste like fish. We all nodded or said yes. He said she was the 20th person to make the same complaint. I asked him why didn’t he say something when she ordered it. He didn’t respond. She also said that she did not want sour cream on her baked potato and they included it. So he suggested that she order something else and she did.

My mom said that her Cajun pasta was ok nothing to write home about but she did eat some of it. He did not refill our drinks. He gets a pass with that because refilling drinks is hard to time. My daiquiri was about a 4 out of 10. The French fries were great.

At this point we are ready to go home. We have to flag him down to get boxes and to tell him it’s my sister’s birthday. He said unfortunately they, cheddars, doesn’t do anything to celebrate birthdays. But we could buy a slice of cake. I did which took another 45 to get after he gave us our tickets. While waiting for him I went to the front desk and ask them to take the cake off and I will pay for our meals. Hostess flagged him down and I told him I didn’t want the cake. He said that it might be ready he had to check. I told him if it wasn’t just to take it off and we would pay for the rest. He said he would peep in and come right back out to let me know. It wasn’t ready I’m assuming because we waited another 20 minutes. I said ok. Let’s just pay so we can go. As we watched him he is talking to the server and other hostesses. We went to the front desk to say we were ready.

It seemed like he had one other table. I know when I was a waitress we had to work one area. I don’t know how cheddars work. But I do know one thing, I will not be...
