This is one of the easiest reviews I will ever need to write. My friends from out of town wanted to go for Indian food. I have been to MANY of Louisville's best. I looked for the BEST of the Best and found Kathmandu rated the highest at the time of this review. Why not try a place I haven't been yet and write a review. We arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday night. It was a quaint place, clean and very comfortable with the inviting, colorful lights, yet not too bright. As soon as I stepped in the door, my senses started dancing. Besides being a small restaurant, the kitchen was close by. My wife and I and our friends from out of town found a booth and anticipated some good food, trusting the reviews to be valid. Ujina, was our server and host. She was very delightful and couldn't have done a better job making our visit rewarding. Ujina took our beverage order. We all asked for water. Ujina replied, with ice, or no ice? I like that. This is going to be a very detailed experience. She then took our food order which when I took my turn, added a couple appetizers, namely Onion Pakora's and Fried Mo Mo's. They were brought out first with some tasty sauces. We all enjoyed them very much. Our entrees arrived soon after the appetizers. I ordered Chicken Karahi, which is one of the BEST dishes I ever had ANY where. The chicken was quality chunks of goodness, the flavor unmatched and sauce thick enough to sop my garlic Naan in. We ALL ordered garlic Naan. Both couples ate one order and had another order left to take home along with left over entrees that came with basmati rice. My wife ordered Chicken Curry like she usually does and said this one was different than any other and Better. Our friends ordered Goat Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala which they were thrilled with. Another couple came in shortly after we arrived and sat on the opposite side of the restaurant. Other than that it was quiet. When we were ready to leave, I paid the bill, got a Military discount and spoke with the Owner/Chef, Purna. I can tell he cares about what he does and wants everything to be the BEST it can be. Kathmandu lives up to the highest reviews and IS the BEST Indian food in Louisville. The ambiance is very nice and the service is second to none. We never needed to look for Ujina for anything. She was there before we ever asked, filling our cups. I can't say enough about the texture and taste of the food. My entree could only have been better with some MORE sauce, which I told Purna. He said next time ask for some more when ordered. The sauce is liquid gold. The veggies were perfect and the chicken was premium. I can't wait to go back and try something...
Read moreIt’s not often you would find a review about a restaurant to start with a kind host they have and not the food. We were having a tired day after a 13+ hour drive from Minnesota to Kentucky and we desperately wanted to find an Indian or Nepali restaurant to literally hog our dinner and we found this online. We had a warm welcome by Rajesh, the single host who was handling the guests all by himself. Most of the times we don’t realize the role of a host and focus only on the food. Only if the host turns out to be a rogue, we feel compelled to write about them or generalize it as Bad service on the whole restaurant. A visit to the place was more of an eye opener for me on this aspect. It’s certainly not one of the best looking restaurants and would appear low on budget with its shady lightings inside. But don’t get fooled away. The menu was a standard Nepali/Indian menu and we ordered our starters right away which didn’t take much time to be delivered. Rajesh made sure to keep checking on how the previous serving of food was when he came to our table to deliver the next one. We had fried and boiled momos, veg thukpa, veg gravy, veg biryani and a mango lassi. I gave a 4 star rating as we felt that the spice was little raw and had the feeling that it could have been more blended with the dishes. Nevertheless, the quantity was huge and the cost was nominal. If I’m to visit Kentucky again, I’ll certainly dine at Kathmandu....

This is another hole-in-the-wall place that's really worth a visit. They have a mixture of Indian, Asian, and Nepalese dishes. They will customize the spiciness mild - Indian hot, and then Nepalese hot for fire eaters.
We were told the menu is being tweaked a bit, so some of the things that were recently available, no longer are. A good percentage of the menu is vegetarian.
Everyone at our table was happy with what we got, and I could hear the people at the table behind me being very complimentary as well.
It's been a while and because of the pandemic, I haven't been able to visit. After almost a year, I had a chance to get an order to go. I was going to call the order in, but I messed that up.
I placed my order and waited in my car for a while. After the order was brought out, I put it into a thermal bag, and even after driving for twenty minutes to get home, the food was still nice and warm. No leaks in their packing, by the way.
It's still really good. Highly recommended.
Five months later and the dining room is open again. If anything it's better than it was.
Every time I try a new dish, it becomes my...
