This was our first time eating here but it won't be our last! It's a small little restaurant. I think there were about 10 tables, my mom and I went for lunch and it was the perfect place to sit and have a quiet lunch. We went because we wanted to try the Reuben but sadly they were out of that on that day. So we decided to split the hot brown and the Benedictine and bacon. I think I should be glad they were out of the Reuben because oh my goodness- both of those other items were oh so good! The hot brown was comfort on a plate, it was warm and delicious. The bacon was fantastic, the turkey was great, the bread was not too soggy. Everything you want a hot brown to be. That Benedictine and bacon sandwich was oh my lawd. I don't know that I have ever had better Benedictine and I've had a lot of Benedictine that I have loved lol. I'm still thinking about that. Benedictine. I've thought about calling them and asking if I can buy the Benedictine by the bowl.
The staff were super friendly, another lady came in and sat at a table close to us where the staff were rolling silverware and talking and she told them to bring us a cupcake. I'm not sure who she was if she was a manager or an owner, but she was super funny and very friendly. She gave us some history of the owners. And a delicious cupcake!
The only thing that would have made our visit better is if we could have ordered drinks as in an alcoholic drink, but that doesn't have anything to do with the food🙂 it was a fantastic lunch. I definitely recommend trying this cute little Cafe out if...
Read moreI’m sad to say it took us several years of living in our neighborhood before we tried Kayrouz. It was a “oh we should go there sometime” thing. I finally insisted we make a point to after I saw an article regarding their accommodations to customers during covid and the fact that they posted an announcement on the door reassuring patrons that their staff was vaccinated. My family has been super cautious as I was pregnant all of 2021 and we have a toddler. We dined outside a few times over the late summer and service was top notch. The food is excellent and consistent each and every time we eat there. There are a lot of comments here on the fries and normally I wouldn’t really care enough to call out French fries but they truly are damn good. Additionally since the covid numbers have started to climb and then subsequently surged, Kayrouz hasn’t wavered in ensuring customers are comfortable. For customers who have reverted back away from in person dining they have continued to take phone orders and offer curbside in a time where most restaurants have stopped offering this and, frankly, seem annoyed when you ask. My family is grateful for this convenience and has created a loyalty. Again, the food is so good, but this review’s mainly about their service. It’s a win...
Read moreKayrouz Cafe is a reincarnation of the venerable J. P. Kayrouz Deli and Restaurant that was located on St. Matthews Avenue. Some of the menu items from the original establishment are still available.
The current menu offers a modest variety of soups, salads and sandwiches in addition to dinner entrees, side dishes and desserts. Several pasta dishes are offered. The Hot Brown, a local specialty, is available here.
Kid friendly, but not a lot on the menu to appeal to some kids.
The facility consists of two houses joined together, thus there two entrances and two separate dining areas with no public passage between them. This arrangement facilities private parties, but does limit the size of the party somewhat. Outdoor seating is available in appropriate weather.
Food quality is good and service friendly and attentive. Service can be a little slower for larger parties.
Reservations are appropriate for groups, not necessary otherwise.
Free parking available, not many spaces, on-street parking too, but you may need to walk a little.
One dining room and one unisex restroom appear to be wheelchair accessible, the reminder of the facility is not. Wheelchair accessible parking is limited, may be problematic.
