Today was the first time here, but I can tell this is an easy 5 stars. The food is great. Upscale bar dining experience.

Bone Marrow - Very well prepared, very delicious. To be honest, it does feel like a very small portion for the price. But then again, I do understand that bone marrow has gotten pricy this past few years.

German Potato Croquettes - A deep fried mashed potato ball with a grape size packet of bacon jam in the middle. Cheese to dip. Mashed potato and cheese was very good. I feel like the flavor profile on the bacon jam inside could be a slightly improved. But overall a decent experience!

MONNIK BEER CHEESE - Ok, lets talk about this one. I could be wrong here, but the bread seems to be homemade. A very very excellent bread that clearly had a lot of effort going into it. The beer cheese I would probably rate a 3.4/5. Of course I ate it with the bread, but stood out as probably my least favorite thing I ate. Dont get me wrong, I am sure that many of you would love this! Its just not up my alley. When I think of Beer Cheese. I think of "Red Yeti" in Jeffersonville or "New Albanian" in New Albany. Both of which have clear 10/10 flavor profiles for their beer cheese and are also very different from each other.

LOCAL BURGER - Man, everything on this burger just tasted like they plucked it from their garden in the back. The meat was cooked unusually perfect. They got the bacon to be cooked to the perfect crisp/juicyness. They asked how I wanted my burger cooked, I told them medium well and got exactly medium well.

Chicken Schnitzel - Wife got this, but she let me try about a 2oz portion. It was also perfect. A very great flavor with a perfect presentation. I think that the purple stuff was pickled cabbage. That honestly did seem a little out of place.

The wait staff was extremely nice and listed off their daily specials after taking our drinks. Note that they do seem to have quite a few choices of daily specials that are not listed on the menu. This gave a...

Monnik is a great place for local craft beers and good food, frequently updating the beer rotation and food menus. The staff is very welcoming and I am very grateful to be able to frequent such an awesome place!

I also happened to be a patron of the restaurant the day that the previous reviewer down below (Megan Ellis) was there and I can very much attest to the fact that her story is full of hyperbole and she was indeed the rude one in this situation.

The server very politely asked them to sit down as they were hovering around two seated tables (in the middle of an ongoing pandemic) and let them know that the beers are on the menus they were provided; which for some reason Megan took very personally to the point of writing a one star review. Megan very rudely replied to the server about the current rotation of beers not being on the menu, which she very kindly let Megan know there is indeed a separate rotation menu on their table (much more kindly than I would have replied given Megan's complaining tone). At no point was any employee rude to Megan or her group, in fact the rest of the patrons of the restaurant spoke up about how impolite Megan's group was simply because her reaction was very strange and immature.

I honestly can't believe I have to write this review just to counterbalance the ridiculous entitlement of the previous reviewer, however...

My husband and I came here for the first time last night. He enjoys craft beer and I enjoy great food and this place exceeded our expectations of both. Their liquor they serve is top shelf and lot of it is local has well. Even their meat is from a local farm has well, which makes the taste of their food above the others. Els was our waitress and her personality and knowledge of the menu is outstanding. My husband got the sliders and I got the Brie and apple burger that are on the limited time menu they have. He also got a flight of beer and I got the “ Shaped of an L” has my drink, a fun fact: our waitress made up that drink for their menu. It paired well with my burger and I would get it again. We ended our meal with their beer float. Their ice cream is from Louisville Cream, a local ice cream shop here. Els paired the ice cream with an amazing beer on tap. One thing I noticed is that the wait staff works like a family, our table never had empty dishes on it for more than 1-3 minutes and our waters were always full. We got to talk briefly to Nick, one of the managers and told him about our time here and only had wonderful things to say. We came for a date night but the atmosphere here at Monnik Beer Company is made for every occasion. Thank you to Els and Nick and everyone here at Monnik making our night so wonderful that you made us want...

4 stars for the staff that were nice people and put up with a needy, whiny man upset to sit outside and wait 5 minutes before getting waited on. 1 star for the food. We just moved back from Germany and we’re disappointed in the take on German dishes. There’s unfortunately no German style Weissbier or anything close; just some run of the mill American beers. I went thinking they had Schweinebraten because someone else posted a photo showing it in the menu, and it was my wife’s favorite dish in Bavaria. Unfortunately the closest German dish they had was a Schnitzel; it was dry, fried too long (almost burnt), and served in a bowl with raw potatoes covered in cole slaw (supposed to be Kartoffelsalat but it was not a good attempt). We also tried one of their pretzels but were again disappointed. It was not a pretzel, but a cake shaped like a pretzel, covered in salt, and served with some weird cheese and watery mustard (by the way, if you ask for mustard for a pretzel in Bavaria they will look at you funny…mustard is for weißwürste, not the pretzel). I recommend removing the Germanic dishes unless the cook can make them authentically and respect the culture they’re from.

Let me start out first saying I REALLY wanted to like this place. My party and I all had a poor experience the first time so I even went back hoping my second experience would be better but I was sorely mistaken. First of all I love the vibe of the restaurant, it was a hipster/cozy hybrid. The service wasn't too bad either, both times I went was a weekday lunch time and both times there was only a handful of other patrons in the place. Both times the bartender waited on us and he was great and decently attentive with the exception of forgetting to fill the waters a few times, no biggie. The first time I ended up doing the watermelon salad and it was decent, theres another German restaurant up the road that does a better job but whatevs. The second time I went with my two new bosses, I did the jack fruit nachos, one did jambalaya, and the other did a burger. Within two hours all three of us were utterly useless because we all had massive diarrhea and were fighting over the one bathroom in the office. Not the best way I wanted to bond with my new bosses but hey, at least the phase of being a new employee wore off fast because of this experience.
