I really wanted to be impressed by this place, but the service was probably one of my worst service experiences I have ever had.
My friend and I went in around 1:30pm on a Friday and this place was dead. We walk in and the waitress doesn't greet us, grabs menus and silently walks us to our table, takes our drink orders and walks away. Drinks coke out fast, as we are close to the only ones in the restaurant and the waitress asks for our food orders, which we tell her we need a few minutes. The waitress continues to walk over every 2 minutes to ask about us and our food orders. My friend actually gets a work call and is clearly on the phone, and she comes over again asking us if we are ready. All the while is giving us this mean unimpressed face. Finally we order food and the food is out fairly fast. A different older lady brings it out for us and is kind.
Next a group of girls come in with the intention of getting drunk. And the waitress from before seats them right next to us, in an empty restaurant. The girls order multiple drinks and shots, but I'm not one to judge, you do you, it's your Friday. After seating that table the original mean waitress goes on break, and a gentleman takes over. Only to completely ignore our table. No water refills, no asking about how our meal is, do we need boxes or our check. Nothing. Just checking on the table with shots and margaritas every few minutes. The older woman who brought out our food comes over and we were able to ask for boxes, thankfully.
After about 20 more minutes of being ignored by the waiter, we get up and walk right up to him, asking for the check. He acts surprised and tells us to sit back down and he will bring it to us. My friend says "No, we'll just pay and go." And we follow him up to the front desk, pay, and leave.
It's unfortunate. I was looking for a good run of the mill Mexican Restaurant, and the food was actually really good. But the service has forever burned a bridge that I will...
Read moreOle Frijole is my favorite restaurant of all time.
My family are regulars at this establishment, we come, bare minimum, once a week. the staff all recognize us so our service may be a little biased; a bit more luxe than the average client may receive.
The food is delightful, freshly made Mexican-American dishes that put comparable restaurants, like El Nopal, to shame. I truly believe there is not a single subpar item on this menu.
the owner Miguel handcrafts every dish with love and passion; he comes out and greets his customers with a warm smile and a welcoming attitude. it's clear being a chef is his dream job, and he's living it every day. everything on this menu is incredibly fairly priced for the quality of food you receive, putting any "value menu" from most other restaurants to shame. The most expensive item on the menu, barring double fajita orders, is only $18.99!! With the average price being around the $13.99 mark. There are several (30 if I remember correctly) different combination dinners to try; simple but irresistible, with many appetizers and desserts for you to try. if you're looking for spicy, you can order any dish "Mexican spicy" to amp up the heat to your liking. They also have a vegetarian menu, even though I'm not a vegetarian, I still order from the menu from time to time. The potato enchiladas are to die for!
The staff are all bright and friendly, with real passion and charm every interaction you have. And if you come for dinner, the atmosphere is unmatched! Some nights are busier than others, so if you bring your family on a Friday night, expect to have to raise your voice a bit to talk.
Ole Frijole is a local Mexican family joint with a large, well crafted menu, in a rustic and homey dining room. I cannot recommend any restaurant more...
Read moreI had been hesitant to try this restaurant because there had been so many failed restaurants in this building. That was my mistake. First off when walking in, the restaurant had a different interior and was comforting for some reason. I guess it was just a nice change of pace. The chips and salsa were really good, but I couldn't help but notice the guacamole bar, so I asked the server about it. He said he could whip me up some fresh guac in the kitchen if I wanted, mild, medium, or hot. I like a good spice so I ordered spicy guac. Let me just say that it was so good and fresh that I made a point to order a to go order to have my friend try it. The spice level was just high enough to enjoy the flavor and have that flavorful kick of jalapeno. I would say it is the BEST guacamole in town. I also ordered the California burrito. It was huge and flavorful. Between the chips, guacamole, and burrito, it was enough food for two. Really my meal was around $15 if you subtract the to go chips and guac.
Be sure to give this place a try, it is easy to overlook, but...
