Growing up in Louisville, especially during college years, I often enjoyed eating at The Hungry Pelican. Recently, I was driving on Bardstown Road in the Fern Creek area and saw The Hungry Pelican! Until then, I had forgotten there is still one Hungry Pelican in business. So, I had to turn around and drive back so I could sample the fare and rekindle nice memories. I was delighted to see on the menu side items like: stewed tomatoes and zucchini, kale greens, green beans, fried corn on the cob, fried green tomatoes, baked potatoes, cole slaw, cauliflower and more! It was after 3:30 PM, so that made it a late lunch or an early dinner for me. After being seated at my table, Shelby greeted me warmly requesting my drink order, but I had looked at the menu and was ready to order, going with sweet tea, grilled salmon and sides of stewed tomatoes and zucchini and kale. When my order arrived it looked delicious, and I was not disappointed with the taste. In fact, the stewed tomatoes and zucchini was perfectly delicious! The grilled salmon was a tad bit spicy for me (perhaps Cajun), but it was delicious and the texture perfect to my liking. I thought I had ordered simply a grilled salmon, but maybe I didn't read the menu carefully. Regardless, the meal was delicious, nutritious and I was happy and satisfied upon leaving The Hungry Pelican ...with a satisfied appetite, memories rekindled and a new memory created....
Read moreI had lots of concern about eating at The Hungry Pelican, due to some of the reviews. But we seen the place on food network and I love oysters. And really wanted to try out the rolled oysters. When we arrived they only had 4 people eating on a Monday around 1 pm. I the waitress how many oysters were in the Rolled oysters, she said it was at 2 or 3 oysters in each roll. That sound great, order my rolled oysters. What a disappointment, I bit into the first rolled oysters and couldn't even find any oysters. My wife and I, by the way she was very upset due to the dried out fish they try to sever her, we decided to take the second oyster roll apart and look for oysters. We could only find enough to fill a soup spoon. Yes that correct, they must have chop up one oyster and put that one oyster into both of my rolled oysters. It was one of the worse meals I have ever had..I would highly recommend not to eat at The Hungry Pelican unless...
Read moreOne thing I found was disturbing was the young lady that waited on me couldn't talk very well. (Probably because she's only use to texting instead of speaking directly to a human.) She didn't know the Menu. I ordered Alligator. She didn't know if they had it. I saw it on the MENU Board where you come in the front door. She couldn't make it clear which side items come with the Platter and which was the add on. I asked if she think they might have Turtle 🐢 Soup this spring and she had NO IDEA what I was talking about. She didn't know you could make turtle soup. I told her the Snapping Turtles was the best. That poor child 😢. She said she'd mention it to them in the back. She'd be lost without them. Personally I feel if you're going to work somewhere PLEASE get some idea on what they have. How its served. And anything else that can help the customer make their selection. ...
