Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen — Restaurant in Louisville

I love this place. My family and I frequent this place pretty often. It's actually much cheaper than dairy queen or other big name ice cream stores in the area. And on top of that they make every flavor of ice cream in house. In store to be exact. And their flavor selection isnt lacking in the least! The only reason I'm giving this only 4 instead of 5 stars is because it's not uncommon that they are out of lots of flavors. And honestly theres no good excuse for that when you make every flavor in house. You would thing management and employees would plan a little better because it is disappointing to me when I take my 4 year old here for a special trip and half the flavors are gone and they arent back the next day. Thankfully this doesnt happen too often where its half of the flavors but it did happen just this week. The store is easy to get to. I love the quaint and family friendly atmosphere and the wooden tables and chairs and benches and even the most adorable wooden childs table. They have 2 drinking fountains. One small and one large which is helpful when my son just wants a quick drink and I dont want to buy one. The outdoor eating area is a nice touch as well for those nice days when you dont want to be stuck inside but dont want to bring ice cream in your car. Overall I...

An entire freezer has been out the last several times we had visited. This has resulted in not having the flavors that we drove from Mount Washington to enjoy. Today we were told it was due to the most recent storms, however this has been going on well before the tornadoes and floods in March. I felt this was just the most recent excuse they could think of. In addition, the icecream flows thay they did have were mislabeled, so after I decided that I would settle with a flavor I could dela with I was told that they did not have it and the labels did not match the flavors. The three young people working were pleasent and I feel bad for them having to answer to this freezer issue. I walked out empty handed and went to the Graeter's down the road that is actually closer to my house (win win I guess).

Normally I really enjoy Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen. They were out of several different pies, which I understand happens sometimes but it really felt like it was several more than usual. They were also out of several ice cream flavors, and the one I settled on was freezer burnt or tasted old. The workers were also not really too happy to see anyone and were more concerned with going in the back room and eating their own ice cream. Just a disappointing experience and waste of $12.

Edit: I’ve reached out as requested via the business complaint form on the main page. So we’ll see how that goes.

Edit #2: the owner of the business replied to my email and has been in contact with the store, saying they are working to rectify the quality issues at the store. They’ve asked that I visit again in a few weeks (with in store credit )and offer them any additional feedback, I’ll be happy to do that. I didn’t anticipate a reply, and upgraded my rating a star based on the customer service...
