Absolutely fantastic Mediterranean food! The owner was super friendly and clearly cares about the quality of his food and the service provided. He is very kind, and treats everyone like a friend in his restaurant.
I ordered the lamb kebab and my mom got the mahi mahi. I tried hers and she tried mine, and we enjoyed both.
My thoughts are:
The lamb, was without question the MOST FLAVORFUL meat I'd ever had. So complex in flavor, savory and aromatic, yet not overly reliant on salt. I also was blown away by the texture of it, upon first bite it's much like steak. However as I chewed, it became more akin to a firm but juicy hamburger in consistency. I have Never had a tactile culinary experience like that before in any restaurant or recipe. Truly exceptional. 🙏
The mahi mahi was equally flavorful and delicious, flaky but juicy and thick. Definitely my favorite fish to date, and recommend for anyone else who likes fish or is pescatarian. 🐟
The rice is long grain, and very aromatic. I'm unsure if there was saffron or jasmine, but it was delicious and cooked perfectly.
The pita is fresh, and I love it. There's a tzatziki sauce that they do which is absolutely outstanding and my favorite.
I cannot express how very delicious and flavorful every single thing I ate was. Even the vegetables were bursting with flavor, the tomatoes were perfectly blistered, the peppers caramelized just to the right level, everything seasoned outstandingly, a little bit of tart, a little bit of tang, a little bit of flavor from the spices, a little bit of savoriness, overall the best dining experience I've had in Louisville in the 25+ years I've lived here.
Shiraz is in my opinion the best of the best.
The food is spectacular, the vibe of the restaurant is very chill and the atmosphere is friendly, yet above all else The kindness and devotion of the owner to their customers and the quality of their food and experience is exemplary and truly sets the bar for small scale local food.
I genuinely think there should be a Shiraz on every single corner of every single city, but like all great things in excess it will become spoiled. There's no way that they could keep up the quality and standards that they do here, on a scale as large as that. They have three locations I'm aware of, and it will probably remain that way because of the astute detail that they put into every single aspect of their business.
There's a reason Jack Harlow has a bar about Shiraz in one of his songs. Just like he shouts out vincenzo's fettuccine in the song what's poppin', He shouts out the lamb kabobs at Shiraz in a track with DJ Drama called "Mockingbird...
Read moreAs someone from Evansville, Indiana, I make it a personal tradition to grab carryout from Shiraz Persian Restaurant anytime I’m in Louisville. Their food is that good. Shiraz has become my go-to spot in the area for authentic Persian flavors, and it's the closest I've found to my all-time favorite restaurant, Reza’s in Chicago, which is saying a lot.
I usually visit the Bardstown Road location, but yesterday I tried the Poplar Level Road spot after dropping my wife at the airport. I’m happy to say the food was just as phenomenal. The quality and consistency across locations really impressed me.
My personal favorite is the ground beef kabob, known as koubideh—it's perfectly seasoned and grilled to juicy perfection every time. Paired with their herbal/dill rice, which is loaded with fresh herbs and flavor, it makes for a meal that’s both hearty and uniquely aromatic. The rice alone is worth the visit.
Their hummus is another standout, creamy, rich, and balanced without being overly garlicky. And don’t miss the Greek salad either, crisp veggies, generous feta, and a light dressing that complements the meal without overpowering it.
Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, Shiraz delivers consistently excellent food and authentic flavors that keep me coming back every time I’m in Louisville....
Read moreI used to love this place bc the food actually is great but the service has forced me to stop being a customer. I took my mom to Poplar level location on a Sunday for Mother's Day(not on Mother's Day). I couldn't have felt like inlet my mom down any more thanks to this restaurant. No menus to see like they used to. They told us they were out of lavash and we'd get tortilla. Well we ordered kabobs and 25 minutes later!!!!!(there were only 2 ppl in the restaurant!!) Yes 25 minutes! We were brought our food. My mom had beef kabob with half a tomato, a slice of onion and a tiny cup of taziki. I had a skewer with chicken on it, a slice of lemon, half a tomato slice and taziki. NO TORTILLA. My kabob had NO ONION PEPPERNOR TORTILLA. I went back in and told them and he said they were out. UMMM you couldn't tell me that half an hour ago? I'm charged full price for 4 freaking pieces of chicken. No substitutions?? I ended up being given a little plate with a cut up tortilla that was so hard it was inedible. So disappointed and embarrassed for this restaurant. I guess I'll be taking my mom on a make up...
