My family and I LOVE KHMER FOOD! We always go to lowell to satisfy our cravings even though we live about 45 min away (1 way) so we always order BIG. I rotate between a few restaurants and was hoping to add SK to the rotation but it's not likely now. Before calling, I read their reviews and decided to order a couple of dishes elsewhere. I called in and ordered 2 tamarind fishes ($35 ea) 1 somlaw machu kreung, 1 tripple combo, and cha kreung chicken. Because I ordered 2 fishes which was uncommon they asked me to prepay over the phone which I had no issue doing. When I got to SK they were still packing our food so I ordered a lemonade lychee drink w/ boba. Got charged $8 and later found out they were sold out. Was bummed, but settled for a mango shake. Got the mango shake, but they forgot the boba. I just let it go and accepted as is. Received the bagged orders and went onto our next destination w/out double checking inside the bags. I hate when I do that! While waiting at the other restaurant I checked the bags and found the tamarind sauces were only filled 1/4 of the way of the small container. I thought it was a mistake so I drove back and mentioned to them and asked for extra sauce if possible. The host checked with the mgr or owner and she said that's the amount it comes with and if I wanted more it would be an additional $7. Flustered, I purchased it. What choice do I have? I've purchased the same thing from Senmonorom before and received 1 full container, the large size. I know each restaurant is different however, I felt they were nickel and diming and could have extended a courtesy of some sort. The environment is very warm and welcoming and the food is pricey for what it is. Unless eating in, take out may not...
Read moreI highly recommend Simply Khmer restaurant to those who want to try the real Cambodian cuisine. All dishes are prepared fresh to order. For lunch, I often order a rice combo plate either beef lock lac on white rice or spicy chicken on white rice. If I am in the mood for noodle, I order Mee Ka-Tang special, which includes all seafood & beef, spicy and dry. There are two kinds of Mee Ka-Tang, the regular with sauce or dry and spicy. My favorite dishes for dinner are Som-law Ka Ko Khmer ( a mixed vegetable with spices and meet of your choice, mine is fish), Cha Kroeung Trey (spicy fish), and Pleah - Sach Ko (Beef, tripe, lemon grass, Asian egg plants, red onions, bean sprouts, jalapeno, red/green bell peppers, red chilies, mints mixed with prohok.). For appetizers, try their famous hot wings. My favorite is Nam Chow ( fresh spring rolls). You need to make more than one trip to try every thing on their menu....
Read moreThe food was phenomenal! Heard Lowell, MA was basically "Little Cambodia" but I've put off trying Cambodian food until now and man...regrets! Should have ventured out sooner. I decided to try Simply Khmer on a whim and was not disappointed. I am Vietnamese so I thought it was amusing how a lot of their menu items are very similar to ours - just with a slightly different spin.
I got the Bai Loc Lac which is the Cambodian version of the famous Vietnamese dish: Bo Luc Lac (shaken beef). The steak tips were bomb! I loved the flavor and the meat was just so so tender and cooked perfectly. The Vietnamese version is saucy while the Cambodian version isn't - the flavor is infused into the meat which I like. Instead of steamed white rice I opted for fried rice for a few bucks more and that was delicious as well. Highly recommend the...
