Jul '22: Dropping a star due to the recent price increase that cuts down the value proposition. And the dinners just don't stand out for us after trying a few. Breakfast and lunch are still good bets.
This was one of our mainstays pre-COVID, so when we found out the family was selling off last year, we were really concerned it would close permanently, or worse, the quality would go downhill. After a few visits this year, we can say that we're happy how it's turned out and it even has a few new things out there.
Prices actually aren't much noticeably higher now and the quality and portions are about the same as before. The breadth of specials is down, but we actually never did much of those in the past anyway; The base menu was really solid. Service was poky earlier in the year, but the last time or two has been more prompt, and we appreciated on a recent visit the server coming back to reclean the table after taking a look at it again after getting the drink order.
One complaint is that breakfast turns over by 11 on Sundays and a bunch of things go off the menu, some that we really like. I think they did that previously, though, so it's not a new complaint, but for people who attend mid-morning services and like to go to a later brunch, it's a bit of a downer. Another was that the dinners in the past weren't very good, at least compared to the quality of the breakfast/lunch selections. We haven't tried dinners under the new management yet, but hope to at some point. If the dinners are just as good, then they'll have done the family one better. (Sorry if they're reading this.)
Places like this need to survive for those who don't like "food fads" (you can only fit so many microbreweries and multi-ethnic restaurants in a square mile) but they have to keep up the quality and value to do it. So far it's still doing the...
Read moreI honestly can't understand how this place had so many people there. Service was unbelievable to say the least. She was gone from the table before everyone got to order drinks. When I mentioned it she laughed hysterically, I didn't see the humor in not getting drinks for everyone. We ordered breakfast. Eggs Benedict & eggs, bacon with home fries. I've never had chunky Hollandaise sauce in my life. It was flavorless yellow chunky stuff on my eggs. The texture of it was just as horrible as it looked. It honestly looked like vomit across the hard poached eggs! I scrapped as much as I could off. The grease was over whelming on the eggs & home fries. Eggs were under cooked & the bacon was literally raw! Home fries had zero flavor and burnt to a crisp. The food was out right terrible. I would have mentioned it to the server but she only asked how everything was in passing the table not giving us any time to answer. Drinks were not refilled, hot tea was cold tea. $30- worth of food & drinks were left on the table. The man who takes your money when leaving didn't bother to ask how things were, I'm assuming he already knew because he saw our full plates...
Read moreI'm in town (passing through because of work), staying at a hotel. I ordered from them using Uber eats because the food sounded good as well as the pictures looking good. I also check their reviews, Which also looked good. So I proceeded with my order, I ordered country fried steak with my sides being mashed potatoes & a side salad. Also, a bowl of French onion soup. I never received the French onion soup. I never received any silverware. So I had to figure out how to eat my food. I also did not receive any ranch to eat with my salad. And when I called to complain there was no manager available even though it was only 2 o'clock in the afternoon. To say I'm not happy is an understatement. I try to be very fair with my reviews and honest. My country fried steak was delivered with the gravy already put on top of it. Which means my meat itself which is fried was delivered already getting soggy. Gravy should never be served on top of anything when it's a delivery the delivery it should be put in a separate container. I'm very disappointed in the service I received from...
