Welcoming staff, high quality diner food, excellent coffee! Despite only living few miles from here, somehow we hadn't found this diamond in the rough yet. Sunlight Diner is a 50s style diner with fifties decor. We were first greeted and asked if we had been here before and we told our story. We were made to feel very welcome and the hostess brought us to our table and took our drink orders. They made sure to keep the coffee coming the entire time we were there. We ordered classic diner sandwiches: a Monte Cristo for me, and a patty melt for my aunt. The fries that came with my sandwich were awesomely crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Very high quality and addictive. The Monte Cristo was the best I've had in awhile. Everything was served right out of the kitchen and very hot. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. As we left, the hostess gave us some menus that had coupons on them and I asked us to come back anytime. We definitely will be returning because the menu was so large - there are so many other great dishes to try. Lots of dinner specials and breakfast all day. Someone at an adjacent table exclaimed that the bacon was the best they've had. If we hadn't already ordered our food I probably...
Read moreNot sure how this diner has such high reviews. The absolute worse diner I've ever been to. It was old and dirty, and the 50's theme is contrived and not very well done. There was one waitress for the entire place (only two other tables were occupied, so she wasn't that busy). It took her about 20 minutes to take our order and she had an attitude like she was too good to take care of us. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, bad decision. The chicken felt like they had stuck it in the blender with a dollop of mayo. It was warm as if the chicken salad had been left out for a few days. The rest of my family order burgers, which were soggy and thin patties. We had all met up from different places for the day, one from the area, a few from Florida, and myself from Pittsburgh. We all left infected with food poisoning. If you want good food and good service, drive 10 minutes down the road for Baker's Diner or the Camp Hill Diner. Avoid this hole in the wall...
Read moreThis place is one of the best diners in the mid-state, and for the life of me, I can't understand why there's not a line to get in here! Stopped for a quick breakfast and quick is an understatement -- had my order in less than five minutes, and it was cooked to perfection. I always order eggs over medium to see how good a diner cook is and rarely do they ever get it right -- Sunlight Diner does! The eggs were perfect, home fries were simple but great, and even the toast was the nice thick toast, not the thin sliced stuff that's tasteless. I should have asked for the Canadian bacon to be left on the grill just a touch longer, but that's on me for not asking and I'm one of those rare people who prefer Canadian bacon a bit crispy, like it's American cousin. The wait staff was attentive, but not overbearing -- perfect like the eggs. You've got to check...
