My husband and I are huge foodies. We are also very picky and have high standards. We eat at many different places throughout South florida everyday. We tried this restaurant last week and have been back three additional times since! This restaurant checks every single box on the list! The place is small but nicely decorated and very clean. The staff is extremely friendly, attentive and personable, as well as knowledgeable about their menu. They will also make recommendations, if you can't decide. I ordered the Bourbon Banana Foster's French Toast. And hands down, it was easily the best I've ever had in South Florida! They actually take the time to flambe the bananas, unlike many other restaurants. It has that true authentic Foster's flavor. My husband loves their bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. It comes with your choose of side, he chooses the home fries, which has a delicious scallion aoli and cruchy bacon. So much flavor!!!! The portions are huge and the food is fresh! Their food is consistently delicious every time we go. Their chef is passionate and creative and it shows. In today's day and age, they are one of the very few, doing it right! I highly recommend checking out this eatery. They've only been there about 1 year and I hope they stay for many more years. Go check them out! You will NOT be disappointed!!!!!

Im very sad to write this review because it was only a few months ago I wrote another review for them, praising their staff and establishment. But unfortunately this restaurant is no longer a place I will be referring or going to. My husband and I have been to this restaurant SEVERAL (more than a dozen) times and the first 8 or 9 times was an exceptional experience all around. The last 3 times we have been here, we have noticed a HUGE decline in staff and service! My husband and I are very specific when we order as we know what we like. We take the time to go over every item from the bread we want, to the cheese, how we like our eggs, etc. And unfortunately no matter how specific we are, our food just cant come out correct anymore. I dont understand how they write everything down and cant get anything correct! I asked for an additional bowl of bananas and sauce on the side of my french toast, and I tell them Ill pay extra for it, just bring me what I ask for. They served my food without the extra sauce and bananas, making me wait 10 extra minutes for my sauce while my french toast got ice cold. And the sauce had 3 extra pieces of banana in it! My husbands sandwich was on the wrong bread, the eggs were wrong, potatoes wrong and the bacon NOT crispy at all. They took his food away and went behind the counter to talk about us and take turns looking over the wall and laughing and making faces. I didnt go there to eat by myself, I went to eat with my husband, and not separately! We had a tee time and couldn't wait another 20 minutes to see if they can get it right AGAIN. We brought this issue to the owners attention about a month ago and his response and reaction was not one an owner should have. He asked us to come back stating it was out of their character. So we did but unfortunately it just happened again. I also noticed a huge decline in business the last few times weve been there. Maybe others are also noticing the differences. Too bad the owner cant see it! They are definitely slipping and I personally dont think they care at all. I have NO desire to go back into this place. I know they will know exactly who wrote this review and I no longer care, just like they dont! Unfortunately for them, there are many options when it comes to where you can eat in South Florida! I will be taking my business and referrals elsewhere from now on and I highly...

Darling, let me tell you—every once in a while you stumble into a place that feels less like a restaurant and more like a love letter to flavor, culture, and good living. That’s exactly what Big John’s Eatery in West Palm Beach delivered to me. As a woman who has co-founded a Michelin-recommended restaurant in Brooklyn, sipped champagne in Seychelles, eaten plantains on the streets of Cartagena, and savored braai in Johannesburg, I do not hand out praise lightly.
But Big John’s? Honey, they earned it.
The Drink
After champagne to celebrate my sister-friend’s new GMA HOOD, Asia our EPIC waitress saw the look in my eyes demanding a Coke after DEVOURING the meal. Asia? God bless you, you know just how to make an Auntie smile.
Classy, this jawn sipped the Coke with a lime in a stemmed glass because this queen? Loves a crown. Simple? Yes.
But it felt decadent—like street culture dressed up for the opera. The chilled bottle, the fizz dancing in crystal, a touch of lime—suddenly Coca-Cola became couture.
The Red Velvet Waffles & Chicken
Now, this was Southern soul with a wink. Red velvet waffles, drizzled with cream cheese glaze, sitting pretty next to crispy, golden fried chicken.
The waffles were tender inside with just enough crunch on the outside, not cloyingly sweet but perfectly balanced.
The chicken? Juicy, seasoned with intention. Together, they spoke fluently in the language of indulgence.
The Sides • Garlic-kissed breakfast potatoes: golden, fluffy, kissed with scallions—like comfort food with good jewelry on. • Creamy, buttery grits: smooth as silk, topped with enough butter to make your ancestors smile. They reminded me of my Louisiana kinfolk—grits that hug you back. • Mac & cheese: baked, seasoned, unapologetically rich—exactly the way Big Dot on the Spot (my late great Grandmother Ibae would).
The Table
Every plate told a story: glossy chicken WANGS, flaky biscuits ready for honey, crispy wings licking sauce from your fingers. This was a spread for people who know joy—people who understand that food is not just to eat but to celebrate.
The Experience
What I love most about Big John’s Eatery is how it holds space for heritage and hospitality in equal measure.
It reminded me of my own Creole, Indigenous, and Gullah Geechee roots—where food is culture, memory, and ritual. You taste it in every bite: the care, the seasoning, the soul.
⸻
✨ Final Word: Big John’s Eatery is not just a meal; it’s an experience. It’s West Palm soul food meeting global palate, served with grace and flavor so rich, even my French ex-husband would’ve licked his fingers. If you love food that feels like home while still surprising you, book your table, bring your appetite, and prepare to feel blessed.

Read moreMy first time at Big John's Eatery was a great one. This is how my visit went.
I initially came here with my family to eat need to eat breakfast. However, they were book solid. I was given the opportunity to choose either to stay for a few minutes or leave my name and number and someone will call me within 45 minutes. Of course I chose option 2 call me and I will come back. They did just that in 45 minutes a staff member called and said a table was ready. I hurried right on over.
Upon entering the door the environment was clean organized and music was going just the right tunes. The hostess sat us and she was super pleasant. Shortly there after our waiter came to the table to take our order.
There are so many great options on the menu. I didn't know where to start. I asked my waiter if he had a recommendation he said, "well to be honest ma'am everything on the menu is fire 😄 and fresh, are you in the mood for breakfast or lunch?" I said, "breakfast." He made a great suggention and I went with it.
I must say, the food was an explosion of flavor in mouth. It was hot, fresh and flavorful, for the price the food and drinks are well worth it. The libation I ordered was amazing!!! . Our waiter was happy, attentive and pleasant.
After my meal the owner John came over to say hello, he was personable and made me feel like I was a true guest not in a resturant but his home.
To sum this up, I've been to many restaurants. This one by far set a bar that most, if not all restaurants need to follow. Walking into an establishment that's clean, food that's fresh and has flavor, cooked to order, staff that is personable and happy to help and serve you and an owner that care enough about his staff, the food that's served and presented as well as for the patrons that eat here.
If your thinking about a place to eat and come across this review. Stop into Big John's Eatery, I guarantee you will be well satisfied. I will be back to try other dishes on the menu. I only hope that Big John's Eatery keep its personable touch on the food, staff and patrons. This place will be one that becomes top tier for Palm Beach. I hope to see a location in Broward County,...
