Let's see. As an Arab who had Arabic food in the middle east and also had Arabic food in other restaurants in Texas I'll give my personal review. The setting of the restaurant is alright..I really don't care for the looks as much as the food. The service is sort of slow but not bad. There isn't much of people attending the restaurant. It is not a place you'd expect to be packed. Every time I went I only saw one or two small groups. The food is sort of little extra comparing to other restaurants Arabic restaurants I've had been to. Maybe by two dollars. The dessert is obviously not fresh and is probably two days old. The baklava is not fresh made and is imported. The kunafa is a very small portion for the price you pay and is definitely at least one day old. I've had plenty of fresh kunafa to tell. The falafel is absolutely not freshly made and is microwaveable. It is dry and tough. The egg plant musaka is definitely not fresh and also microwavable. The shawarma is delicious. I like the sauce however it is not the original shawarma that is served in the middle east. The portion is small comparing to the price. They serve hardly any french fries and the sandwich doesn't have much chicken in it. Same thing applies to the kabobs. In general the food is not freshly made comparing to other restaurants like Manara. Unfortunately it is the only option in town to go to for something different and middle eastern. I'd go there still but rarely when I am dying for foreign food. However, I'd probably go more often if the...
Read moreI went there when it first opened for the day. I walked in to the counter and did a quick look around the place. It's a small cafe with paintings on both sides of Greeks in togas and the Greece country side. I ordered a lamb and beef gyro, tots, and a baklava. . I didn't see a vertical rotisserie like I've seen in so many I've been to. I noticed that he started to cook the meat in some sort of grill. I guess it's not the ones you can slice right off the rotisserie. I then started to walk around and look at the place. The air intake for the central air was very dirty and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years if ever. Then I walked to the coke dispenser. It was dirty as well. Like I said I was the first customer for the day, So they didn't clean it the night before at least. The then I looked at the wall next to the machine. It was also dirty and looked like it never been cleaned. The tables were clean from what I could tell at least ( I had my order to go). Ok now the food. He asked if I wanted it spicy. I said sure. Bad idea. Just because it had Horesraddish in it, and I'm not a fan of it. The meat itself was band. The spices were not really there. The bread was good. The tots were good, and the baklava.... Well I've had better. Over all not place I...
Read moreGreek food is one of my favorites. I grew up eating authentic Greek food as a staple so I can be very picky. Unfortunately, it’s not often that I get to eat it since Amarillo doesn’t have any. I was excited to see this place while passing through and decided to give it a try. At 11:30, the restaurant was completely empty. The owner came out from the back and greeted my husband and I, took our order and went to work preparing it. We ordered hummus, chicken shawarma, and gyro. The hummus came out first and after eating my first bite, I knew I was in for a tasty meal. My chicken shawarma was so good. The flavors were perfect. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his gyro as well. We decided we couldn’t end our meal there. I’d noticed they had kunafa and Greek coffee on the menu so we decided to get some. The coffee was out of this world. If you enjoy rich, strong coffee, Mediterranean coffee would be right up your alley. This was truly some of the best I’ve had. The flavor of cardamom was so perfectly present and it paired perfectly with our kunafa - my all time favorite Greek dessert. The owner was very friendly and seemed to truly appreciate our business. There’s no doubt, I will definitely be back the next time...
