"NO MANAGEMENT/POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I have eaten several times at Cancun, however this experience was horrible!!! First I went in with a party of 6 and was waiting to be seated. The hostess told me to wait and her and another gentleman cleaned up a table and put two tables together for us. Then a party of four came from the back and they sat them there. After that she took us to a booth where they had a smaller table about a foot in difference in height from the booth with one chair. I explained to her that this would not work, she stated well there are no more tables. There were clearly other seats available and was not offered to be seated at a different location. Then I asked for the manager and was directed to the bar tender "Rodrigo". I explained the situation to him and he told me to hold on so he could see. I then asked him if there was a problem on why we couldn't eat at this establishment? he laughed at me and I asked him what his manager name was or who was the owner. He explained as he shook his head that I was going to get that information. I asked him what his title was and he told me he didn't have to give me any information. I asked him again if there is a reason why he couldn't give me a general manager or owner name of a person who ran the business. He again just smirked and smiled at me saying he wasn't going to give me that information. At this time there were even more tables available and by this time my party of 6 decided there was no point in staying at an establishment that couldn't even give us a manager. I started to walk outside when "Sergio" came out to speak to me. I explained the situation to him and he did apologize and offered to take care of me personally. However I thanked him for him take the time to speak to me, though I did not want to eat at an establishment where the employees were told that they couldn't give me a name of the manager or anyone who was running the restaurant at the time. I was approached by a customer who was eating there who told me that he felt in his opinion that there was no reason why they wouldn't sit me and my family down and advised me to put what occurred on line for the public to see it. The sad part is I have actually spoken to family who works at this restaurant and talked about our childhood in parts of Mexico that we grew up at. I find it very difficult to believe that there was no one in charge while the restaurant was operational and find it even harder to believe that a party of 6 wouldn't even be seated so that we could spend our hard earned money in there. Finally I leave this message to the owner or person who is running this establishment. If this has occurred once, how many other times has this happened. Also you can have amazing food but if you have poor customer service, customers will not come back. There was no effort by anyone other than a server, who was greatly appreciated for his efforts that even attempted to find out what was wrong. The other staff members continued on as if they didn't care why we were leaving. If this was my business I would make it mandatory that everyone is greeted upon entering and seated in a timely manner. The customer should be the highest priority as if it wasn't for the customer there is no business. There also should be someone who is in charge anytime the business is open. There should never be a reason why there is no one there who can claim that they are in charge. There was way too many consistencies in what I was told and cant ever see myself or anyone else that asks my opinion on why I would ever go eat here. Thank you for taking the time to read this and wish you the...
Read moreFour of us went to Cancun at 79th & University today for a midafternoon meal to celebrate my friend's birthday, whose favorite restaurant is Cancun. I asked if they had a list of gluten free dishes. Our wait staff person looked puzzled. She didn't know what that was. My "birthday friend" and I explained it to her. She went back to check. When she came back, she had a much better knowledge of what was made with or without wheat/gluten/flour in it. (Very impressive - a quick learner!) My only meat choice was fajita meat since even the taco meat has flour in it. On the back of the menu I pointed to a selection and said that I wanted the fajita salad since it looked to be safe. Two times the wait staff brought out fajitas to our table & we all said none of us had ordered fajitas, but I had ordered the fajita salad. So they took the plates back and fixed a fajita salad. When the salad was served I mentioned that I had forgotten to request guacamole & she graciously offered to bring a side dish and quickly came back with it. (The guacamole was so fresh and delicious!) I was a little sad that the rice and beans listed with that dish on the menu were missing on my plate. The salad was fresh and lovely and good except for the fajita meat which was Way Too Salty (and I like a Lot of salt) to the point I had a hard time eating any of it. I only ate about a third of my food and avoided the beef, then brought the rest of it home in hopes I can simmer the beef in a little water to remove some of the salt so maybe I can finish my meal. Before we left, I asked to see a menu again. I carefully read what I had ordered which was listed in a column of 5 items - 2 salads, fajitas, another dish which listed lettuce, and another salad. Therefore, I just thought the fajita dish was a fajita salad. I have to say, the staff must truly believe the customer is always right, because, even though I was mistaken in how I read the menu, they accommodated me and brought me what I requested, once they figured it out. The restaurant was clean with a good atmosphere and all the staff members were very gracious and pleasant. The service was good and my friends and I had a very nice time. All their orders were very delicious. Will I come back to Cancun? It would be very hard to, if all I can order is the fajita plate since I dread the thought of ever putting another piece of that meat in my mouth. It was tender and moist, but Massively Salty!!! The employes were so nice, and my group had such a nice time that I would like to come again if in the future Cancun can put Something without gluten on the menu other than the too salty fajitas. I will be watching for that to happen, as it is a really...
Read moreDon't order the Caldo! I ate here a couple years ago and it was pretty good, but I believe it has changed ownership since then. This time I ordered the Caldo de Res. I have to say here that I am a soup nut and a Caldo aficionado. I tend to judge the authenticity of a Mexican restaurant based on the quality of their caldo. Having said that, I have to say, never in my life have I seen any Caldo de Res that even resembled the monstrosity that I received at Cancun. I don't know what type of cuisine that soup was, but it was a million miles from being Mexican Caldo de Res. It had three small chunks of beef in it that were 80% fat. Aside from the chucks of fat, all there was were a few small slivers of carrots that were cooked so long in the beef broth they were brown. The broth was a deep dark brown and tasted something like canned beef broth with extra salt. I don't know where this cook learned to cook Caldo, but it sure was not Mexico. Caldo de Res is supposed to have large chunks of beef (not fat) and vegetables (corn on the cob, whole pieces of carrot, cabbage etc.) Caldo De Res is supposed to be colorful, with each component retaining it's own color and flavor. The broth is supposed to be light in color , not dark brown. True Caldo de Res is supposed to be served with a side of fresh chopped onions, cilantro, jalapenos and lime wedges.
The bottom line is that the cook at this location of the Cancun Mexican Restaurant has not the foggiest clue as to how to cook and serve Caldo de Res. Even my waitress ( a hispanic lady) agreed with me about this. I honestly can't speak to the rest of the food there because I left after sending what ever that bowl of stuff was that I got back, but if the cook is this far off on his Caldo, one has to wonder if he knows how to cook other authentic Mexican...
