So I went last night (Jan 15) for my birthday, a gift from my wife so to speak. I ordered a deluxe fish platter with shrimp, catfish, trout, deviled crab, and scallops.
Let me start with the good stuff: -The restaurant was really clean, and well decorated, it wasn't gaudy or anything of the like. -The staff (sans my server) were all pretty friendly and seemed like they were on top of their jobs. -Overall was a pleasant experience until it was time for drink orders. And it didn't go downhill per se , but I wasn't impressed.
Now for the rest: -My waitress never introduced herself, so I had no idea what her name was, and she was using all kinds of street slang to describe things, which I don't think is very professional considering we don't know you like that to be talking with that kind of tone with us. -My waitress came to the table a total of 4 times, once for drink orders, once for serving the food, I waited 5 minutes until she came around to get some ranch with our meal (with my food uneaten) and to refill my wife's drink (which took 10 mins to get back), once to refill mine (another 5 mins), and then the check. -Normally this is OK for shorter stays but I'm accustomed to at least a check every 15 mins for the hour and a half we were there, but she never really checked on us at all, and from what I can tell she only had two tables she was serving. The rest of the servers seemed they were on the ball and checking with their tables frequently, however ours seemed to hang out in the kitchen out of sight. -The food was... okish. The scallops and deviled crab were pretty tasty, but the fish and shrimp weren't all they flavorful. They just seemed to be battered dipped and fried with no real seasoning. Everything was rather greasy as I needed 4 or 5 napkins to eat it and every time I used a napkin it would rip to shreds trying to get the grease off my fingers.
We tried this place to get away from the corporate type seafood places hoping to find a diamond in the rough. While the restaurant wasn't bad in itself, I overall didn't enjoy myself that much, plus the upset stomach I had coming home afterwards wasn't enjoyable either from as much grease was on the food. I do not think I will ever return here, but I do wish them the best, because it looks like...
Read moreGREAT PLACE!! I rarely leave reviews but, this place is deserving of my time to do so. We like to eat at local places while traveling. Avoiding chain restaurants is a must. We found Pier 41 while searching for kid friendly restaurants. Just off 95 made this place really convenient. As we were entering, I met a couple locals and asked how it was. Of course, they bragged and said it was great. We soon discovered that was no exaggeration. This place was packed at 5:30PM and our wait was only a few minutes. Our waitress Heather greeted us with a smile and a great attitude. While ordering she made recommendations that would make our selections cheaper. Soon after we ordered the owner Mr. Steve introduced himself and asked how we were doing? Where we were from, where we were heading to and made us feel very comfortable and at home. Heather brought out the best hushpuppies I’ve had in a very long time. Just a hint of sweetness to make you want more but, resist because you will get good size portions. My catfish was really good and my oysters were perfectly cooked. Everything was lightly battered and not over cooked. My wife’s fried shrimp were out of this world. My sons chicken tenders were flavorful and not just your normal tender. My youngest son had the Shrimp alfredo. It was full of shrimp but lacked a little flavor. The sauce was a little thin but still delicious. I guess I like mine a little thicker than most. The best part, our food was really hot when it arrived to our table. That’s something I really appreciate. This is a defiant must stop while traveling I95 through Lumberton. We will certainly pay them...
Read moreIt was just Ok. NOTHING to write home about and Definitely NOT worth the wait. It's like a mom and Pop seafood place. The food wasn't bad, but nothing special. We waited for a table FOREVER! when we finally got sat, one waitress came up and started to introduce herself, and no sooner than she got her name out said "I'm sorry, they just double sat me with this party" and introduced us to our new waitress. Ok no biggie, I've worked in the restaurant business I get it. We we're ready to order, I mean we had to wait nearly an hour and had already been at our table almost 10 min. Our new waitress hurried and got our drink order and ran off. We didn't even get time (or asked) if we were ready to order. So a bit later she comes back with our drinks and our "complementary" basket of all you can eat hush puppies. She sat our drinks down and tried to run off again before taking our order until I told her we were READY. She took our order and we didn't see her again until AFTER our food came out. (They sat her with like a party of 20) I had to go to the checkout cashier and ask for another basket of hush puppies. (There were 5 of us and a little basket.. lol) and even then she looked bothered that I'd ask. NO one came to check on us. Even though I was very clearly turned almost ALL the way around in my chair, standing up at times, and very OBVIOUSLY looking for someone to help us! I had to ask another server to please tell our server we needed boxes and the check! They were clearly understaffed. Like I said, nothing to rave about. If I passed it again, I'd save my money and...
