Hops and Barley is a wonderful restaurant that pleases patrons with a very varied menu filled with deluxe entrees such as surf and turf, exquisite salads and a whole bunch of comfort food. We arrived on a Friday between 6:30 - 7 p.m. and were immediately greeted and seated, however there weren't many tables available, despite the large dining room. A shared appetizer of Buffalo Chicken Cheese Fries, consisting of popcorn chicken sitting atop a bed of fries, both covered with melted cheddar cheese and spicy wing sauce. The appetizer was delicious, the serving generous, and we knew some of the dish would be packaged up at the end and brought home. The hot turkey sandwich platter was also a smart choice, with the turkey piled onto an open bun with fries, and all of it smothered with gravy. The balsamic fig chicken salad was also amazing, with marinated grilled chicken served over field greens with tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted red peppers, and feta cheese with a balsamic fig dressing. As the name implies, Hops and Barley serves beer, of course, but there is also a large, fully equipped barroom, so one can enjoy a cocktail before or after dinner. With a seemingly large patron base, a menu that covers all the bases, and a friendly, professional staff, this place looks to fire on all cylinders more often than not. This venue should be on everyone's radar. Do yourself a favor and frequent this restaurant. I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

In over 20 years I've never been let down by Hops. Took my son to Seseme Street Live at the arena and didnt want to deal with. Crowds from there so decided to stop at Hops. the taco salad has been my favorite for over a decade. 9/10/2021 Every year the first day of school my mom took my brother and I to hops to " celebrate" the new school year. Zebadiah did start 1st grade last week but tonight was out first chance to try to keep the tradition alive. Hops is and most likely always be my favorite restaurant in nepa. I had my all time favorite a chicken wing sandwich but instead of grilled I had it fried, oh it was amazing. My mother had some sort of charbroiled salad( yes I know it sounds odd)but it was out of this world. My boring child had a grilled cheese bacon on the side ( what is that all about) and of course like mommy he saved room for desert!

Recently visited hops & barleys for the first time after living in the area for over a decade and it was outstanding! I got the French onion soup and taco salad. Both were awesome. The soup is probably tied for my favorite in the area (with checkerboard). My husband got the chicken wing sandwich and fries. He also liked his. I can't say anything for the sandwich but I did snag some fries. I prefer thinner shoe string like fries that are crispy and that is what you get here. Our friend got the hops penne and ceasar salad. It's his favorite dish. Though the salad does come with mushrooms which is unusual for a ceasar but just a heads up if you don't like them. We will definitely be back as there was several items on the menu I can't wait to try.

First, the food was very good. We ordered broiled haddock and pub penne with chicken. The chili tasted good, but we did not like the size (too large) and quantity of vegetables in it. 4 stars for the food.

The service was horrible. We first walked in and were passed by 2 hostesses/waitresses coming out of the kitchen who didn't even make eye contact. Then, a 3rd waitress asked how many (2), and told us it would be a 15 minute wait unless we wanted to sit in the bar area. So we sat in the bar area. We noticed a few empty tables in the dining area, but figured perhaps there were reservations. As we ate, nobody sat at the table in the front of the dining area for the entire duration of our meal.

Lastly, our waitress did a very poor job. I will say that she was very polite, however. It took 5 minutes after sitting down before she came to our table and took our drink orders; then, 10 more minutes to take our food orders. The couple who sat down right next to our table 5 minutes after us put their food and drink orders in immediately. Their food came out well before ours, and they were long gone by the time we finished eating. The waitress did not check on us often, and even forgot to bring a carry-out container the 1st time we requested one. Overall, 2 stars for the service.

We will definitely go back again, as we've been here before. But the poor service was a little off-putting, and we won't make it a priority to...

All these reviews you see of a "great atmosphere", are wrong. Me and 2 other individuals went into the restaurant and were escourted into the dining area. We were placed at a table with a depressing lamp above us, and its lightbulb definitely wasn't energy efficient. We were greeted by a well mannered waitress and received our menus. The menus need to be redone. My menu was ripping apart, literally. We ordered our appetizers and waited approximately 45 minutes for them to come out (let me remind you, this was a Saturday @ 2pm) The "Steak on a Stick" was okay, but it was too charred for my taste. 25 minutes later, we received our entrées. One of the people I was with, got microwaved, rubbery chicken on a bun. Saturday afternoon, right before the crowds come out at night and you serve rubbery chicken? It could of (and mostly like was) been microwaved. I got a sandwich, and it was adequate. During our visit, 3 fruit flies landed on our appetizers (fried vegetables to be specific). I Contacted the server, and got the sandwich removed from my bill. I see these 4+ star reviews, I just dont agree.

In summary, friendly staff, great options, atmosphere is poor, the menu itself (the cardboard its on) needs to be redone or updated.

I will most likely try this place again. (Maybe. But never on a...
