La Michoacana Lyons — Restaurant in Lyons Township

What a disappointment — this place has completely lost its charm and its mind.

I used to make the trip out here because it felt like a hidden gem: affordable, quirky, and unique. But after finally coming back post-COVID for a rare night out with the family, I left feeling ripped off and frustrated.

Somebody must’ve told them they’re on par with Oberweis, because they’ve jacked their prices up like they’re serving luxury desserts — when in reality, it’s a cramped, poorly ventilated hole-in-the-wall that now charges boutique prices for subpar ice cream.

The inside is so tight, you’ll have strangers brushing up against your wife and kids just trying to get in or out. There’s barely any seating, and the little outdoor area they do have is filthy and neglected — gross table, trash, sticky surfaces. It felt like the back alley of a gas station, not a place you’d want to enjoy a treat with your family.

To the owners: You run a budget-friendly ice cream shop in Lyons, not a gourmet creamery. Please stop pretending otherwise. If I’m going to spend that kind of money, I’ll go to Zoo City Treats in Brookfield — adorable, cleaner, cheaper, and better-tasting better service more options— or Oberweis in Western Springs, where the product matches the price, absolutely the best ice cream hands down.

This place used to be worth it....

I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service at this location. I've been a loyal customer for the past couple of years without any complaints. However, today, when I took my daughter and ordered a paleta, the ice cream appeared to be starting to spoil, becoming gooey. After just one bite, I returned it to the counter, where the young lady put it back in the freezer and offered to replace it. I explained that the ice cream was going bad and that my daughter had already licked it. Another cashier intervened, and appeared irritated that my daughter had already bitten into it, and dismissed my concerns about its quality. They reluctantly replaced the paleta, giving my daughter a disapproving glare, and suggested that they shouldn’t replace it because she...

It's been a few years since I've posted a bad review and this place was bad. The customer service is awful. They definitely pick and choose their favorite customers. Save yourself a trip and drive a little bit further for better customer service and better quality food. The previous owners were very polite to everyone. The people working today were acting as if we were an inconvenience. I don't understand how someone can fail so miserably at chopping fruit. Keep in mind there was no line. When asked if they could chop smaller pieces I received an eye roll and she continued to chop huge pieces....
