This was my first time at Betty Gene's. I understand the menu had been updated recently. The decor is charming and welcoming. The breakfast menu seems small, more lunch items offered. We were seated immediately and placed our order. I sent a text to family at 1104a. At 1139a our food finally arrived and 1 order was wrong. It was sent back, returned and still wrong. 3 times a charm. The eggs were over medium as requested, the 1 sausage link (yes, 1 is all you get in the ala cart order) was dried out and over cooked. It looked like it had been charred. The waffle was just okay. I have had waffles that were light and fluffy. This waffle was dense and tough. The staff was pleasant. Staff seems unorganized and inexperienced. You have 2 people working behind the counters and playing hostess. 1 person was working on eggs, but also making lunch items. 2 other people were not really doing much or miscellaneous cooking. The kitchen area is very small compared to the amount of counter seating, and tables. A larger kitchen/cooking area is needed. It's a shame because it is such a cute place. Almost a 40 minute wait for eggs and a waffle is just...
Read moreWe came on Friday morning between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., which is just in the changeover between breakfast and lunch, so it was not crowded. We were interested in getting breakfast. First the good. The food was above average but some caveats need to be mentioned. We had two complaints, my wife and I, the first being no bread of any kind with the omelette. There were potatoes which were quite good but this was not strange oversight considering the price. I chose to have the buttermilk pancakes. What I got was quite good but after spending $10.99 for two medium size pancakes about 3/8 of an inch thick each, this was surprisingly and unacceptably stingy, again considering we're spending $11 on this. For this price one would expect a stack of four fluffy pancakes not two flat pancakes. The coffee was okay, not bad, not great. Now for the service and dining experience. The service was non-engaged and the servers seemed to be more interested in talking between themselves and arguing, than serving us. Maybe they were switching over to lunch. Of the two days we spent in Madison, Betty Gene's was the worst dining experience we...
Read moreWe drove from Atlanta for a nice and quiet lunch, and regretably, much was a disappointment. Not very welcoming service -- it was as if the staff were being interrupted and ready to go home. The food and beverages were not fresh or complete. When we inquired why the selection did not include all the ingredients listed on the menu, we were told there were no eggs, even though we also ordered the eggs benedict. That certainly had eggs, though the sauce was not very well prepared. The restaurant entrance, where we needed to park, was not ADA accessible, making it a significant challenge to enter. The restaurant doesn't seem to care once we brought it to their attention. The interior was clean and relatively attractive, so a good thing. It was just not a kind and positive experience overall, and that was a shame. We will not return, but feel the restaurant owner should extend a gesture for the unsatisfactory food. No telephone number listed on their...
