Gator Jr's has really good BBQ! I have been there SEVERAL times and it has always been good until Saturday, August 5, 2023!! The tips were cut substandard...like slivers so I rated them 3 stars . I was highly upset. Most times the tips are very tender and cut down to a nice size. My advice to this establishment is that they not withhold quality. They will lose their patronage.
Also...this restaurant needs a change up in dishes for example offer Samplers: Tips, Ribs, & Sausage combos or create a featured offering with a discount of a $1 off. People really appreciate variety, thoughtfulness and an economic break. We are all pinching pennies. We know food prices are soaring. Shift the expense in other ways. Be creative.
I rated them a 1 on service because they are ALWAYS overcrowded (from guests waiting on orders) and will not prep call-in orders until the guest arrives. Their explanation for this is that they have been burned by many who have called ahead and didn't follow through to show up for their food, so they will only pull your ticket upon arrival. Well, that defeats calling ahead!! 🙄
Finally...they get 1 star on atmosphere! No one wants to sit and wait in an overcrowded, hot restaurant for food! Gator Jr's should consider creating an App or offering a website that allows Patrons to order online and prepay. This way, they have their money upfront and the customer doesn't HAVE TO WAIT or wait as long! Even consider Curbside...this is offered at Buffalo Wild Wings, Bulldogs, Applebee's and other restaurants.
There's too much technology out. Please...
Read moreWe stopped for lunch at this strip mall BBQ joint that was supposed to be one of the best. First impression was that it was tiny and tight. There were so many people waiting for carryout that there weren't many options for our party of five to sit down. I'm not going to hold it against them that they were busy. That should be a sign of good BBQ, right? We placed our order and waited, and waited. For sandwiches. But again, it was busy, so I'm willing to wait for good food. Most in our party ordered pulled pork, but I chose a brisket sandwich. When our food arrived, the biggest complaint about the pulled pork sandwiches was that they were "meh," and a little too sweet. As for the brisket, it was awful. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't good brisket supposed to be juicy and tender? Well this sandwich had two features, giant globs of fat and shoe leather. It was inedible. If you are already familiar with Gator Jr's and love it, great, but if you are curious and want to give it a try, I'd avoid the brisket...
Read moreThe food is very average. Great bbq has been smoked long and slow: the brisket not the pulled pork have any signs of a smoke ring, so it has been cooked in another way that doesn't impart any true flavor to the meat. The sides are not homemade but are commercially purchased. It's not terrible, but very average. They are also very slow in getting the order to you. Two sandwiches with fries and slaw should not take 25 minutes. The main reason for me not returning is the attitude of one of the staff taking orders. She was rude, abrupt and was very unpleasant. If you are going to work with the public, being kind goes a long way. There are other bbq restaurants in Madison that offer better tasting meats, are more efficient and don't involve an...
