This was an accidental find on our way to Minneapolis. Having a vegetarian, we figured Madison was probably the last best place before heading into Minneapolis to have dinner at a decent hour.
Firstly, their service was just absolutely AMAZING! Such warm hearted folks taking care of each and every aspect. No, this is not a 5 star out of the world type of place where you have to place your napkins a certain way. It's super casual which brings in the warmth of just having a good dinner.
The onion bhaji was SPECTACULAR. It was super crispy, made fresh and had a South Indian flare to it by the addition of the curry leaves. It just worked beautifully.
The rava masala dosa was not bad. The dosa itself was nice and crispy. The masala was not bad by any means but it did not have that little ummph to it. The chutneys that came with it were alright.
The egg fried rice was divine. Simple and filling.
We also ordered a medu wada sambar. This was the only thing I think could have been better. The medu wada did not seem fresh. It was a little tough but the sambar made up for it.
Lastly, the paneer chilli. That had a kick to it (surprising but I do love spicy stuff) and the paneer was fresh.
When the staff found out this was more of a pit stop for a quick bite before we head into Minneapolis, they were just so kind and offered us extra water and wanted to make sure we had everything we could need for the 4 hour drive. It had the 'dildari' that we know of in India. Really felt like home.
Not sure when we will get to visit again but on our next trip to Minneapolis, definitely...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Kutty Leaf, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality that made me feel right at home. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with a lovely blend of traditional South Indian decor. The menu offers an extensive selection of South Indian delicacies, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The dosas were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with a variety of chutneys that perfectly complemented the flavors. The sambar was rich, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. If you're a fan of traditional flavors, their Idli Vada combination is a must-try! The vadas were golden and crispy, while the idlis were light and fluffy. Another standout dishes were Kothu Paratha and Veg Biryani – it was packed with aromatic spices and had a perfect balance of heat and flavor. I also had a chance to try their Appam, which paired wonderfully with the curries. The service was excellent, with the staff being friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Plus, the portion sizes are generous, so you'll definitely get your money’s worth. Overall, Kutty Leaf is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic South Indian food. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, you’re in for a treat! I can't wait to come back and try more of their...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find on Madison's Northside! A family owned and run business with excellent service and food. The menu is not huge which is welcome as it simplifies Indian food for Americans. They are more than willing to adjust spices levels to suit individual tastes-I like very hot, my wife likes very mild and both were accommodated nicely. Our party of three ordered 3 appetizers and they were all delicious with large portions. What stood out is even though they were all deep fried, they were not at all greasy and were in delightful sauces. Our entrees followed suit with ample portions and great flavors. The idli with chicken curry and the Butter Paneer (Paneer Makhani) were nicely spiced and flavorful (the third in our party shared these entrees). We had 3 different bread choices (Idli, Parotta, Chapati) and they all shined with homemade goodness. All cooked perfectly, and again not greasy. Reasonable prices were welcome too! So were the attentive owners and the smiles of appreciation on them and our dining party.I am no stranger to Madison indian restaurants and this welcome new choice adds a slightly different take on the scene and it's closer to our homes in the Beaver Dam area. We'll be back!! Highly...
