The world needs to know. I’ve lived in Madison for five years now, though I’ll be moving out of my beloved city this weekend. It’s bittersweet. I’ve been taking this week to look back on the experiences I’ve had here, good and bad, and I have come to one conclusion: I have made many mistakes in these last five years, those involving friendships, life decisions, and general daily actions. That being said, there is nary one mistake, nay scar lain upon this world by my brazen body and soul with greater implications than that of not visiting Zippy Lube Coffee, Donuts, and Fried Chicken earlier. Indeed, it is my one regret. Zippy Lube opened its converted-auto shop doors to me for [regrettably] only the second time earlier today, and I left that oasis of pure godliness speechless, a clean slate with nothing but fried chicken on my mind and in my heart. The chicken itself is as beautiful as the city of Madison and everything it strives to be. The zippy sauce—oh, the zippy sauce—is everything Madison can be, yet isn’t quite ready for. Zippy sauce is more than a sauce—it’s an apparition of an extended a hand to anyone and everyone who needs one, who refuses to accept one, and who has already given theirs to the aid of someone else. Zippy sauce gives me hope, what for, I’ve yet to discover. But that’s not important. What’s important is knowing that something as divine as a northside hot fried chicken sandwich in a checkered-blue parchment paper wrapper can exist in the most surprising of places. What’s important is sharing donuts and coffee with loved ones and living in the now. What’s important is accepting that all things come to an end, that sometimes it’s necessary to leave the people and places you love (even if only temporarily), that finding your Eden late is better than never finding it at all. Tonight, I’m grateful I found mine. To the inquisitive Madison locals and visitors reading this, I beg you to check out Zippy Lube. Order a chicken sandwich and a donut, take a seat while you wait, and let the world happen. I just might be...
Read moreWatch me read this place for the filth it actually is…this place is horrible the food gives gas station and this place is overly priced and portioned horribly what the hell do you mean a small Mac and cheese is barely one bite? They aren’t really welcoming and talk to you like you are slow when you try to ask questions about the food and makes it seem like it’s rush.
Don’t even get me started with how un organized this place is the lines are overly long they need two cashiers and a drink maker instead they have one poor person working on register AND doughnuts and someone making drinks I’ve waited more than 15 minutes for a drink and not to mention their drinks suck and are also overly priced. The doughnuts need a lot more work and health regulations because why is an almond doughnut which is a nut BTW next to and touching the other doughnuts which is contaminating them? That’s not professional at all and they use the other tongs to pick the nut doughnuts or the ones people may be allergic to? NO you need one specific tong.
This place isn’t spacious especially for the people in the front they constantly bump each other and it just doesn’t really work out.
My personal opinion I think they should close this place down for a bit and re establish this place was too much a quick job and not a community they just need to do better honestly this could be a good thing for the north side but it’s not giving and maybe again...
Read moreOh..my. gosh. I heard about Zippy from Gina at the uh... That antique place on Willy street. What a trip. I've biked by here frequently not knowing what the heck I was missing!!!
They aren't shorting on staff at Zippys. You're gonna be served well. The place is clean and well run. The food menu is small and fantastic.
I hope they never fear taking away menu items. I hope they do that. I hope they bring in occasional entertainment for events. I hope they make those events like a show and tell for employees interests maybe. I don't know just spit balling!
I hope their logo and identity become more well known. I wanna see that menu simple and delicious all the time.
Excuse me, as for their food? The mashed spuds on the side are to die for, with a tangy gravy that will literally blow your mind. The side Mac and cheese are to die for, with chunks of garlic and creamy I had the veggie patties breakfast Sammy on an apple cider donut. I wouldn't do apple cider for a Sammy again but the egg was killerr!! It was kinda melted into the cheese.
My Americano was good as heck too. I'd love to see their key tools have character or identity added to it. In the kitchen staff have their fryers or make tables. In the front staff have their tills and...
