This was a total disappointing experience and as far as I'm concerned. A misnomer from the start to finish as far as it's name. The name of the restaurant implies that the very best of red meat served will be in fact, the very best. My fiancé and I stumbled upon this restaurant to celebrate my 60th birthday. We started with oysters followed by the grilled octopus. These "starters" were a tasty treat. We then ordered the "king" of red meats, Porter house for two, and this is where an insulting, embarrassing, and my birthday dinner took a dive. I will preface this review by stating that I have consumed this dish at the very best restaurants in New York City. I write this to say that I know my "red meats" and know how I like them served. As always, I ordered the steak "medium-rare." When the steak arrived at the table I realized immediately that it was over-cooked to a medium-well temperature. The waiter walk away momentarily to get some serving utensils, (not prepared), and during that time, I exclaimed to my future bride that I am not accepting sub-par food especially on my birthday. She agreed. When the server returned, I stated that the steak was over-cooked and I'm refusing service. The waiter then had the gumption to ask me, "oh, really then what is temperature of the steak?" I looked up at him and stated "Look, I'm 60 years old, I know steaks, and this one here is Medium-well and I do not want it. He pats me on my back and states to the assistant standing nearby " go to the kitchen and tell them that you need a medium-rare right away.” Well, if they reordered the steak medium-rare it was simply because they served an over-cooked steak to begin with. So I ask, Why the hell are you questioning me thereafter? It doesn't stop here. You need to hang on and read this: When the second steak arrived it was served more pink in the middle than the first. However, at the center of each piece served, it was stone cold. This could only mean one thing- the steaks are pre-cooked, refrigerated, then warmed-NOT FRESH. I say this because every top steak house will let the meat sit out to room temperature, salted, then cooked. The salt crystals on the second steak still had plenty of white on them from not being freshly char-broiled and thus not melted by the extreme heat of the broiler. This unanticipated train wreck culminated when We paid the server $45 for his preconceived stupidity and the restaurant $255 for a steak that reminded me of a dead dog an its last days of decomposition. Good luck to all of you but as far as I'm concerned, never again. All the negative reviews are spot on. Heed this warning. PS: At minimum 2 other tables were not excited with their experiences leaving a condensed tip at...
Read moreWe have dined at RP several times and the last 2 times have gotten progressively worse. On Dec 23, the service was subpar at best but the food was good(not great as we had previously experienced), so we chalked it up to holiday stress and busyness. In January, the food was a huge disappointment and the service subpar again. My filet was not cooked properly, so the server took it and had it put back on the grill. This not only dried it out but also rendered it even more flavorless than before. At these prices, we would expect an improperly cooked piece of meat to be replaced as to not jeopardize quality. To be fair, they did credit us our meal and offer us dessert. The biggest failure here is the lack of management involvement and their own preservation of reputation to a group who patrons there often (over the past year). This was the first time I had ever seen my husband NOT finish his entire filet because it was not flavorful and not what we have come to expect. All of our regular choices were not the same quality we have experienced in the past. The Bernaise sauce was inconsistent and flavorless. The hashbrowns not properly cooked. Perhaps COVID staffing issues has hit their kitchen and they are doing the best they can but again, not properly addressed by management. Patrons don't always want a free meal. We would have been much more satisfied with reassurance from management that this experience was not the new expectation leaving us with hesitation to return. Very disappointed in our last 2 experiences. Our server on the last 2 visits was the same and we will, if we ever return, specifically avoid him.

Read moreExperiencing a dining disappointment when you have elevated expectations for a special occasion can be quite frustrating. In my case, I had ordered a ribeye steak prepared medium well, but it was served rare. This occurred at a prestigious steakhouse renowned for its expertise in preparing top-quality steaks. The ribeye steak was priced at $68. The restaurant manager or could have been the owner went to great lengths to address the issue, offering to either prepare the steak to my desired doneness or provide a replacement. Furthermore, they deducted the cost of the steak from the final bill, displaying a sincere commitment to resolving the situation.
My visit to RP Prime was intended for a special occasion, shared with my wife and a very close friend and guest. Regrettably, it marked our first and probably last visit due to the disappointing experience. The service left much to be desired, particularly in terms of the extended delays we encountered in receiving basic condiments such as bread and butter and beverages. These delays added to our overall dissatisfaction.
During the table-clearing process, the busboy reached for the dishes in a manner that lacked common courtesy. He extended his arm in front of my face while we were talking without offering any polite phrases like "excuse me" or checking if I had finished my meal.
I firmly believe that when a restaurant charges such extravagant prices, approximately $$$$ per person, there should be a noticeably higher standard of staff training in place. I've given a 2-star review solely due to the manager's or possibly the owner's commendable efforts. They genuinely made an attempt to rectify the situation. However, it was challenging to enjoy the meal after everyone else had already finished...
