Tavern 17 — Restaurant in Mahwah

I had a very poor experience at this establishment. Walking in there was no hostess at the desk and the floors were audibly sticky. The bartender was beyond busy and running around, servers too, and the manager was visibly on his phone not backing up the bar or servers. On a Saturday night at 7:30 we waited one hour for (2) burgers (no appetizers). Finally upon arrival the food order was not correct. At that point I was beyond tired and frustrated, they offered to take the uneaten burger off, the bill came charge was still there. Too busy to fight anymore we paid for our burgers and left. The restroom was atrocious, dirty papers all over the floor and half the stalls didn’t have toilet paper. The Hilton should be absolutely disgusted to be associated with such a poorly managed establishment. It’s unfortunate because it has the potential to be a very lucrative restaurant. Clearly management on both sides is not paying attention to this place. Our server on the other hand was very friendly....

My experience was terrible. I asked the waiter about the size portion of the calimari he says it's a full plate and yet I get back a small portion. Then on top of that it took us near 20 minutes to get our checks. Then I find out I got charged for multiple meals when all I ordered was calimari and I got billed almost 40$ on my card. Then I found out the server used my card to charge for meals and drinks that weren't mine because he had no idea what he was doing. Despite all that I could have forgave him if he bothered to apologize but he never came back over. I asked the manager for my money back and despite a few days of getting the run around I have not got anything back. So basically they robbed me of my money. Now I am constantly calling back and I am not getting responses. If you eat here make sure you keep a close eye on your cards and make sure your server knows what he is doing. This is...

It's new.. I'll give 'em time to improve... The staff was very friendly and nice. That goes a long way for me. They really need a true and consistent happy hour menu. And to stay competitive, it needs to be enticing to make people want to go there instead of the Shannon Rose down the street or other local bars that offer better options at decent prices. The happy hour needs to include food as well as drinks. Very good location with a great look and feel. Now they just need the music and ambiance that can make it the right place for locals to enjoy.
