This review for Oak Mill Bakery is overdue but I have to shout out their amazing team at both the Niles and Arlington Heights locations for their diligence, attention to detail and organization. Basia, at the Niles location, was so attentive to my questions and that of my small tasting group as we prepared and planned the sweets table and cake for our October wedding. Her suggestions were authentic and rooted in what would work best within our budget as well as based on usual "fan favorites" that we'd still enjoy. Her patience and organized correspondence, as well as the fluidity with which her team coordinated with our venue-location coordinator was seamless - I didn't have to play the "middle man" in any correspondence or communication. Oak Mill was on top of everything! Not only this, but I still have family and friends reaching out asking where we ordered our kolaczki (a Polish favorite) and cannolis (an Italian favorite). Basia was mindful of budget when building in these special cultural connections through our choice of sweets, too...and it was scrumptious to match! Our cake was outstanding and both the dessert table and served cake were almost completely cleared by the end of the night. A major hit!
Now that we are coming up on our one-year, Bill at the Arlington Heights location has been incredibly helpful in creating an Anniversary Cake. This is a special service Oak Mill Bakery offers - a smaller version of your original wedding cake. What's best is Bill went out of his way to look up our original order, making my side of making arrangements extra simple. This will be an added special bonus to any anniversary, to be sure.
A big thank you to the Oak Mill...
Read moreTwins birthday cakes were frozen. Meaning $80 down the drain and a whole embarrasing situation on my kids birthday. Staff did NOT tell me that the cakes were frozen when i purchased them. October 3rd, I gave them a 2nd chance and went there again. I asked for a no alcohol and no gellatin cake. Both of these ingredients are against my religion. Unfortunately my 3kids had the first slices. Sure enough I could totally taste the alcohol on the first bite. The rest of the cake we threw away. I called and spoke to the manager, got reimbursed for the cake. I was assured that this will be handled properly and communicated to all staff. Yesterday I was naive enough to go back for my twins birthday cake again. When I asked the lady for a non alcohol/no gellatin cake she mentioned the SUCCESS cake and tells me it does NOT contain alcohol. I told her that it does have alcohol and that's exactly what they did to me last time. The same cake. She didn't know because she was reading on a list that was again not updated by the management. The only thing they did do was put a little sticker on the front of the list of the alcohol cakes. The back of that same list that the staff reads off did not even have that sticker! So much for taking things seriously and being professional.... I ended up taking the Marzipan cake which no one at the party liked. It was a complete waste of money. The almond paste was so strong that it was impossible to enjoy. Did not even taste like cake. This time I am completely done with this bakery. Done for good! Good luck to you Oakmill Bakery, I hope one day you will learn how to properly and respectfully run...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. I had called in advance for a basic, 8 inch cake. The woman over the phone took my order, but couldnât give me the final total for the product before a charge on my card she later called me back with a final total at that time I did not have my card call back tomorrow morning the woman was OK with it and asked me to call back tomorrow at 10 AM. The next morning, I had called 10x between their opening hours and 1pm. At that point, I had to drive over to the store to give my card information. The manager called the owner to see if they could still fulfill the order, and the manager stated that i would have to pay an additional 25% for a rushed order. I was appalled, considering they were the ones who werenât taking the call they instructed me to make. I, myself, called the owner, Matt who proceed to place the blame on me for not having a Visa of MasterCard... instead of realizing that it is his bakery that he is depriving of staff. Matt proceeded to tell me that he didnât want to pay staff to stay late.... which made me quickly realize the selfishness behind the whole experience. Matt dug his heels in and refused to fulfill the order that I was promised. Thankfully, Sweet Connections bakery took my order with less than 24hours notice... and the cake was half the price!
I am sad to end my period of loyalty with OakMill Bakery... but it is of upmost importance that I support businesses who support their customers, too. I truly hope that the company takes this feedback and strives to improve their customer service... such a...
