Iâm such an idiot. Iâve lived in the Orlando area for 40 years now, and I just went to Kappyâs for the first time. I know, I know, no need to judge because obviously Iâve suffered enough. So, my dad & I were looking for a place for sub sandwiches for him, and Iâm not a huge fan of the large chain places. So I suggested Kappyâs. I got the Philly cheesesteak, and Dad ordered the regular sub (I guess thatâs the actually name?). My Philly was the best Iâve had outside of Philadelphia. Sliced steak smothered in provolone and loaded with sautĂ©ed mushrooms and green peppers were served hot on a soft-as-Wonder-bread bun. I had every intention of being a good wife and bringing half home to my hubby, but I shamelessly ate every.last.bite. Iâm not joking. I even ate the little bits that fell out into my basket. Husband definitely wonât be complaining, though, because that means I had to order a whole Philly to bring home to him! Dadâs food was probably good, too, but if Iâm being honest, I barely talked to him while I scarfed down my food. đ His sweet potato fries smelled amazing, although I wasnât able to try them due to an allergy. One more thing I have to mention, there were 4 people there. Two African American guys, one white guy, and a girl with two tone blonde/strawberry blonde hair. These people worked together like they were Seal Team 6 behind that counter. One person would start to do something, and the other would come behind them as soon as they stepped away to take an order to finish what the other person started. One of the guys was scrubbing the outside of a white freezer in the back of the store. The girl was out of view for the most part, but Iâm sure she was back there doing something amazing. I told the staff theyâre the A-team. If youâre like the âmeâ of yesterday and have never been to Kappyâs, just know Iâm judging you harshly and talking about you behind your back. Now Iâm a part of the elite âBeen to Kappyâsâ club, and weâre definitely better than the rest of you. Yesterday me was a loser. Today me is the happiest girl...
Read moreI never rate this low, if only I could rate lower!!! I have had a cheesesteak craving for months on end, and had flashbacks to when I had kappys for the first time. I ordered from the small window outside, and the combo was $5 according to the woman at the window, which was a little steep so I just said Iâll pick up some coke on the way home. I got a cheesesteak and some onion rings for 10.20 and I told her to keep the change. Once I said that her attitude changed, and was instantly rude. I sat down and waited for my order, and saw the free check in sign for a soda, so I checked in and went back up to show her. She rudely rolled her eyes at me and said I donât know what youâre showing me? And I pointed to the free soda sign and she just grunted and walked away. I waited till I got my food and I asked the cook to get me a soda and he nicely did. I thought ok, i got my cheesesteak, nothing else can go wrong. It did. When I unwrapped my steak, grease covered my pants, my sheets and everything. I understand a cheesesteak is greasy, but shouldnât be that greasy. My bun looked like a wrinkled toe after being on the beach all day, and guess what!!! Barely ANY cheese. This is probably my last time ever going to kappys, because the woman being rude and the food just being sub par was horrible. I am not satisfied, and I feel as if I just paid for an overpriced hotdog at a ball game. Very VERY disappointed is an understatement. I canât even call to complain about it because thereâs only two people working!! Which is understandable because itâs a small business, but there should be some sort of...
Read moreKappyâs is a cute little local joint that gives old school vibes. Their schtick is all about classic diner food, focusing mainly on burgers, hot dogs and cheesesteaks.
That being said, if itâs hot outside and youâre even slightly pressed for time, Iâd suggest you go elsewhere. Comfortable seating is severely limited to about 12 barstools in a small dine-in area and a few picnic tables outside adjacent to their parking lot - the heat literally wafts off the asphalt while you wait for your food.
Speaking of which - and the main reason I would never go back - THE WAIT TIME FOR THE FOOD!! It is entirely unacceptable to have people waiting 45 minutes for this type of food! We ordered a hot dog, a burger, a cuban sandwich, and three orders of waffle fries. There was nothing complicated about our order and the food itself tasted pretty standard, so for the time it took to get the food, I personally wouldnât risk going back and having the same experience.
I guess if I grew up eating their food, Iâd overlook this sort of thing and consider it part of Kappyâs overall charm, but as someone new to the area looking to find a fun place to grab a bite,...
