Art & History Museums of Maitland stands out as a truly exceptional venue, especially for intimate weddings. The diverse spaces within the museum offer an array of captivating backdrops, seamlessly blending art, history, and nature to create an unparalleled setting for couples seeking an intimate and artistic ambiance for their special day. What sets the Art & History Museums of Maitland apart is its ability to weave together the beauty of art, the allure of history, and the serenity of nature. From the quaint garden spaces adorned with lush foliage to the elegant interiors that showcase art and culture, each corner exudes its own charm, providing an abundance of unique settings for capturing timeless moments. As a photographer, I've found this venue to be a dream to work with. The ambiance of the gardens and historic buildings evokes a sense of romance and tranquility that effortlessly translates into stunning photographs. Whether it's the artistic sculptures, the serene ponds, or the elegant architecture, every element contributes to crafting a visual narrative that speaks volumes about the couple's love story. The staff's dedication and professionalism at the Art & History Museums of Maitland further elevate the wedding experience. Their attentiveness to detail and commitment to ensuring a seamless event for both couples and vendors make each wedding a joyous and stress-free affair. I highly recommend the Art & History Museums of Maitland to couples seeking an intimate and artistic setting for their wedding. I had been to the museum but only for a wedding in the gardens, which are beautiful! Today, decided to become a tourist and explore the 3 parts of the museum. It is only $6 to enter and you get to explore all three. You will first browse the art museum, followed by the history next door and wrap up with the telephone museum. The art museum changes the exhibition through the year and it is pretty cool to see. Same applies to the history museum (right now it is the history of the settlers of Maitland) and the telephone museum includes not only the history but how the telephone made an impact in the Maitland area, pretty cool. Bianca was an awesome guide that showed us both the history and the telephone museum. She is very knowledgeable about the exhibits and is more than happy to answer any questions. She even showed us how the oldest telephone worked, it was very neat! Since it started raining, we did not venture out to the Mayan courtyard across the street, but we were told that it is available to the public to explore until 4pm. Art classes are offered to whomever is interested and you can purchase a membership to have unlimited access to the museum or new exhibits. A hidden little gem in Maitland that needed to be explored at least once and more so if you live close to the area!

Beautiful museum exhibit and intriguing telephone museum. Went on a Saturday around 11am to see orange exhibit at the museum. Museum admission ($6.00 regular) entrance was a bit confusing as I went through the studio workplaces instead, which looked amazingly Mediterranean-like though. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. She first asked questions like if I was a student or Maitland resident for discounts. I was neither which was okay. To see the telephone museum, outside of the exhibit museum, I had to let the receptionist know whenever I’m ready to go there. Telephone museum is small but wonderful curation of telephones from different eras. So unique. She had time to even give me a brief tour. I grew-up seeing those public pay phones and the old-school plastic cord phones, so I felt nostalgia. The receptionist even said some little kids would ask what the public pay phones were. Amazing how inventions happen over time and time flies! The art gallery is also separate from the temporary orange exhibit I saw. It’s down right next to the museum. It’s also small but the one I went to had hyperrealism of citrus fruit and other paintings and sculptures.

Edit: 1/31/2024 This review still stands. I cannot under any circumstances recommend this place to any decent human being after reading the email I received from the director Danielle. It is clear that they have no integrity and choose to not take any accountability for their actions. Their leadership style is "let's ignore facts and skirt things under the rug." It is my experience that they lack empathy and are not to be trusted.

✨✨✨👀If you are a parent you must know this. ✨✨✨✨

➡️Your child is not safe at their events.

➡️The staff are not educated in conflict resolution among the children so when a child chooses to repeatedly hit your child you bet they will skirt it under the rug and they have.

➡️They claim that it is developmentally appropriate for a child to hit and as such will not be considerate, empathic, or give one iota about the emotional damage your child has incurred.

➡️Their negligence on this matter is so extreme they won't even allow you as a parent to intervene and protect your child. If you do, you will be maligned.

It is in fact part of their program due to the delusion that this is what developmentally appropriate means.

It does not. It is our job as adults to guide and facilitate the emotional wellness of children and provide ways to provide emotional safety for them and to teach self regulation and emotional regulation.

I.e.: The appropriate response when a child hits another is to intervene and an adult should escort the child away from the others for safety measures to be given the emotional support and connection they need to come back emotionally regulated and ready to contribute in a positive way with their friends.

👀👀👀Attend one of their events at your own risk. They do not care about the safety of your child.👀👀👀

In my twenty years as an educator, I have never encountered a facility that did not take hitting seriously and understand child development enough to understand how to navigate it. I am sad to say this is my first time seeing this inaccurate understanding of child development and it is extremely dangerous because they believe they do know about child development and what developmentally appropriate means.

We die at our own peril when we are under the illusion we know what we don't know and are unwilling to have enough self awareness to understand that someone else may have valuable input given their master's in education and over twenty years experience working with children of all ages in different capacities.

I understand children need support and do not fault a child for not having the emotional skill set to not hit in anger. I fault the adults who are essentially given off the energy "that boys will be boys and hitting is to be expected. "

As adults we set healthy boundaries and perameters. We guide. Not the other way around.

😬You have been warned. I do not normally write negative reviews. I only write them when the safety of children is an issue. Had they responded differently when this problem was brought to them this review would be unnecessary which is even more scary. This review reflects my personal...

I can't rate this place above a 1 star after being misled, and ignored multiple times in a row, just to then find out they basically stole my money as well.

I've been eyeing a narm membership for quite a while now (at least 8 months, which becomes relevant later) but they require people to visit one of the museums included in narm because you'll need to personally visit in order to buy one, so I visited this place probably 6 months ago, but there wasn't anyone at the front desk to help me, so I figured I'd at least fill out the paperwork for the membership as I waited for them to return, but they didn't even have any pencils/ pens available in the first place, so I put the paperwork down and left.

They recently added a way to buy a membership online, so I bought one, just to then receive an email saying it would take up to two weeks before the membership even possibly even sent via mail, so I visited the museum about an hour later to try to pick up the membership instead, but was told I would have to wait the two+ weeks instead, so I waited.

The membership arrived, but it turns out the membership is only valid at the Maitland museum, which means I was misled by the narm website, the paper they wouldn't even let me fill out because it didn't mention two separate memberships, their site as well because they didn't mention literally anything about their being two separate memberships and even implied otherwise with comments like "all art and history museums" and "bok Tower included".

I was also ignored at least three different times as well, and left with nothing but a feeling of a massive disappointment, not just because of the stuff I mentioned above, but also due to how long I've been waiting for one, but all I actually have is less money than I previously did.

The membership was even bought using a Visa gift card I acquired via a literal Loan. I honestly can't rate this place above a 1 star

Edit: the people working here desperately need to be fired, not just because of what's mentioned above, but I've spoken with them since about some errors on their site, and they are insisting I'm a liar all because they are refusing to fix multiple errors...
