The wife and I have been 4 times in the two months that it's been open which says something in itself. The first time we went she got the molcajete and it looked absolutely amazing, the stone bowl was piping hot and all the food inside was tender (my food was also very good but I was a little jealous). Next time we went it was about the same this time we both tried something different and it was just as good, ok great...
Skip ahead to valentine's day where my brother in law and his family joined us because we had talked the place up. I called ahead to make a reservation since it was Valentine's day and there were a lot of us, no problem. The food and service was subpar, we chalked this up to valentine's day. We just left there and again the food and service was just ok, they have started to "tweak" their menu items slightly (adding raw radishes to molcajete??).
Now onto the reason behind the rating and why it is the way it is, based on my experiences this I would rate this 4 maybe even 5 stars. However, my wife and I both have experienced the culinary industry fairly extensively and we see this happen with new restaurants a lot. They start out very strong but as they start to get those monthly expense reports and look at how much it truly costs to maintain that level of quality and try and see where they can save money.
This rating is based on the predictive downtrend based on my experiences and I hope that upon my next visit I am pleasantly surprised for it...
Read moreWe tried to visit la Rivera this evening for dinner. Got an emergency phone call and had to leave quickly. Our food hadn’t been on the table long enough for our waitress to come back to see how everything was. I got up to get boxes, packed our food and was at the counter before our check was even ready. I tried expressing my son didn’t like his Mexican pizza, and barely touched it. He said it tasted weird. And the picture of what he got and what was advertised as Mexican pizza looked different. A lot less cheese sauce on top is what he got, the picture shows it covered. (But I wasn’t going to complain, and I didn’t.) Asked if they would do something about it since he didn’t eat it and it was still on the table. Again our waitress hadn’t even come back to the table to check on us to see how everything so I couldn’t have requested anything different or tell her yet. And the manager said no he wasn’t going to do anything about it. So I paid $14 for a meal to be thrown away. I didn’t have time to stand there and argue with the manager either due to having to leave for an emergency. This isn’t the first time we have had an issue at LaRivera, but it will certainly...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant on April 30th. We went in and find out it was karaoke night. The music was extremely loud. We got seated right in front of a speaker. Sat there a couple minutes and asked to be moved. In which they did. New table was a little better but not much. Could not hear a conversation with the person across from you Checking out the menu noticed they didn't have any dinner combo meals like the lunch menu. Only had one item meals. Did have a build you own meal. 2 items and sides so 1 item was 1 taco. So we ordered food, it didn't come all at once, when we got the rest of the food some of it was wrong. At first I thought the chimichangas was fried taco they was so small and thin. For a place thats supposed to be a family restaurant. This night was more like a bar. Food was just ok, service not good, atmosphere wasn't great. Will not go back and would not recommend...
