Incredibly disappointing experience at The Crooked Ram. The location is pretty and has a lot of potential. We had read raving reviews and were excited to have lunch there. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst experiences we have had in a restaurant. They sat us promptly at 12, which is when we had our reservation, right at opening. The server took our order fairly quickly--at 12:05, we ordered a salad for my wife, a pizza margherita for our toddler, and a pizza marinara for me. A few minutes later, my wife's salad (a glorified plate of lettuce leaves, topped with a handful of walnuts and finely grated goat cheese and a dressing--pretty good, though since it was mostly green lettuce, it was hardly worth the $20 price tag) and my daughter's margherita--undercooked by 60-90 seconds--arrived. (The pizzas are cooked in an Italian food fired oven, which, depending on temperature, should take between 1.5 to 3 min to cook a 12" pie.) But my pizza marinara wouldn't come for another 40 minutes, by which time, of course, my wife and daughter were done eating. Several times throughout the wait I flagged down our server (who otherwise not once checked in on us to see how we were doing) to ask about my pizza, including because I had seen several other pizzas come out of the oven and be brought to patrons who had come in, and ordered, after us. Each time, I was told that "the kid's pizzas come out sooner" and mine was "coming next" (spoiler alert: it wasn't). That was clearly BS, since we had not ordered a "kid's pizza," and we were, in fact, charged for a regular margherita pizza. When my pizza finally arrived, it was, of course, undercooked by 60-90 seconds. Not once did anyone apologize for the abysmal level of service we experienced. Mistakes happen, including on the part of servers, and they could just have owned up to it and apologized, and it wouldn't have been an issue. But the lack of any interest or customer service, coupled with the overpriced yet at best mediocre food, ensured that we will not be back, and will recommend folks to...
Read moreThis place was absolutely fantastic, offering an unforgettable dining experience that left a lasting impression. The eggplant appetizer was a delightful start to the meal, accompanied by a flatbread that was so irresistibly delicious it was worth breaking any carb-free diet. The texture and flavor of the flatbread were perfectly complemented by the eggplant, creating a harmonious blend that set the tone for the rest of the meal.
Moving on to the main course, the pizza was a standout dish. As a New Yorker, I am often skeptical of pizza outside of New York City, but this Vermont pizza truly exceeded my expectations. The dough was expertly crafted, with a perfect balance of chewiness and crispiness that made each bite a pleasure. The toppings were fresh and flavorful, and the overall taste was so impressive that it was actually worth talking about. I would highly recommend the pizza to anyone visiting this restaurant.
In terms of overall food quality, I rate this place 5 stars. It’s a testament to the skill and dedication of the chefs in creating such exceptional dishes. However, I would suggest passing on the crab toast unless you have a specific craving for crab. While it might appeal to some, there are plenty of other delicious dishes on the menu to choose from that offer a more diverse and satisfying experience. Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience with...
Read moreStopped in for lunch after a hike. The location is beautiful and the staff friendly. We started with the simple salad, which was huge. Easily enough to split between 2-3 people. We moved onto the crab toast, which seemed to be quite popular. It was good, but not great. The yuzu was lost in the cacophony of flavours.
We decided to end with the "cheese selection" and assumed it would be a selection of cheeses, as the charcuterie boards posted by everyone else in the reviews seemed bountiful. I almost laughed when it was brought out! It was a single, small wedge of cheese, a few crackers, and a little bit of jam. For $20 it was terribly overpriced. Save yourself the trouble and go to any local shop, and for the same amount of money get a much better selection of cheeses.
Finally, we overheard a special being told to a different guest seated nearby. We were not informed of any special, and it sounded quite good, but it was already the end of our meal. Be sure to ask for the special in case you end up in the...
