Pros: amazing food, great staff, good beer choices. Cons: cleanliness, parking (college town), no handicap ramp.
First off Id like to say that this review was hard for me to right because I had to take emotions out of it and be completely objective. I want to start by saying that our server was new and that I wont be too critical on the circumstances that arose from that. My wife and I have enjoyed this restaurant nearly a dozen times and have love the food and experience every time, mind you these were all to go orders, so this review is purely based on our in dining experience. Before arriving for my mother-in laws birthday dinner we placed a reservation for a booth looking out the window which was seamless and smooth. We arrived and were greeted by Akhil who was friendly and did his absolute best to accommodate our needs. (The women in the group have a tendency to ask for a lot of side options lol). Upon sitting in the booth you can tell that this is a restaurant in a college town as the booths were dirty and what appeared to be food was on the backs of some of the stalls. The food is a five star and if you are someone looking for a clean atmosphere to match this may not be it. For those who have OCD around their food this may not be it. The food was great as well as the wine and beer. One thing I want to discuss here is an occurrence that took place during our meal. While in the middle of deep conversation and reflection at the table a little girl came over to our table. From the looks of it she was still pretty young and I believe she was related o the manager who later came and told her to leave us be. But before this the little girl stood there for approximately 45 seconds to a minute interrupting us by chanting na nana na na while pulling up here shirt. The first time we thought it was funny and then went back to our conversation to be interrupted several more times. At this point it became slightly obnoxious. Now don't get me wrong I understand that this is normal behavior for children and common place in other cultures, I just felt that it was not conducive for atmosphere component. When the manager came over to get here there was not an acknowledgment of us. With this one annoyance I think that the in house experience was worth it and would dine in again if I see a change in the cleanliness...
Read moreMy husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time. We love Indian food so we were really looking forward to it. The front of the restaurant is under construction right now. But the restaurant was easy to find. We went on a Saturday around 5:00 p.m. The interior of this restaurant was nice and bright with seats facing the windows. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, quiet, and cozy. We ordered a mango lassi to start, which was super thick and super tasty! The samosas, plain naan, garlic naan, butter chicken curry, and chef-special curry (chicken) were all delicious in the morning. The samosas were very tasty with the aroma of cumin seeds spreading in my mouth with each bite. The samosa dough was crispy and really tasty.
Update: I went there today after a long time and the naan I ordered was not good. It was not soft at all, the whole thing was crispy and hard, and the table was full of pieces of naan. I have only had naan that was softer and fluffier, so I was very disappointed with the naan here. Also, this is very overpriced for the quality of food and service (others may think differently, but this is my experience). We were not at all satisfied with the food and we will not be...
Read moreI was really excited to have a gyro place open in Manhattan, but this was a major disappointment. I've tried it twice just to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke. First, the meat isn't even real gyro meat, which is typically lamb or beef and lamb - it's pork. That would be acceptable if there were more than a meager amount on it under the heaps of dull, flimsy lettuce. The tomatoes were also of the same quality you'd find at Subway. The "Greek fries" fries were soggy and flimsy both times I tried them and were no more than shoddy, undercooked basic French fries with a little seasoning on them. $23.97 for two gyros and two sides of fries would be acceptable if the food was actually good, but the food is very mediocre. Also of note: the assembly line of cooks is visible behind the register, and one girl's flabby gut was literally resting about 4" out onto the countertop where she was folding gyros. If you want a gyro in Manhattan, I regretfully inform you that Arby's has this place beat.... Better gyros for a much lower price. If you want a fantastic gyro in the area, go to Thomas' Taste of Chicago in Junction City! I won't ever be back to Gyroville, at least...
