I really wish I could give this more stars, but as of now, 3 might be generous. The venue is pretty nice - a spot of green space, convenient location in downtown, music, some seating - but where it falls short is in the food. I lived in California for years and have experienced some amazing and cheap food from food trucks. But here in Mankato, I have had food from 3 different vendors, and completely disagree that this is an oasis for foodies. To complement Mankato's other lack-luster food options, the food here is mediocre and over-priced. Even Lola's food truck (and I really enjoy their location in New Ulm) was disappointing. I got a gyro for $9 with rosemary garlic fries for $5 - with a skimpy tip, that is lunch for $15. Normally, I would not mind paying a little more knowing I am getting homemade, fresh, and local fare, but when I was served the gyro, I found the meat to be typical, sketchy gyro meat, a sparse topping of shredded iceberg lettuce, pale tomato slices, and a couple homemade sweet pickles that, according to my tastebuds, did not belong. The tzatziki was good and the pita was filling, but they did not elevate this to a $9 sandwich. The kicker to motivate me to write this rating was the rude service of the gal ringing me up and serving the food from the truck (normally, the New Ulm location staff are fabulous). If it wouldn't have looked like I was stealing money from the tip jar, I would have scooped my buck back out. I will give the food trucks time to figure out their learning curve and try it later this summer, but for now, it's a...
Read moreStopped in for a bite and WOW! Caribbean Kitchen was serving up the BEST jerk chicken with cabbage, rice and beans. Sorry I didn't get a picture, I was too busy enjoying every bite and had messy fingers! Chicken was moist, fell off the bone with a nice crispy skin and tangy sauce. Cabbage was SOOO buttery and good that I ordered a second helping to bring home for later. The ladies working the truck are super nice. We will be following...
