Pokémon Go has two gyms and five Pokestops here, so it's a very nice spot for trainers to go and walk around in almost any weather. Good spawns, including occasional rares and water types down by the river's edge.
There are covered picnic tables, a children's playground, nice views of the river and the city at its edge, ample parking, clean and warm public restrooms open during the day, and even a bike tool stand for cyclists to use with an air pump and all the most commonly needed bicycle repair tools. The blacktop-paved Minnesota River Trail skirts around the Park's edges, and it's quite nice to get away, howsowever briefly, from the incessant noise and agressive drivers of downtown and Old Town Mankato.
Would be considerably better if it weren't almost constantly under rennovation, and apparently exempt from enforcement of city and state noise ordinances. Depending when you visit, and which way the wind's blowing, there may sometimes be nearly overwhelming noxious fumes from industrial installations in the area. There are nonetheless some rather nice...
Read moreVetterstone - you made a mistake putting in "reserved" seating for the concerts. I heard a lot of people questioning why they paid $40 each for folding chairs set in the middle of all of the bag chairs others brought themselves. Seems like a money grab.
Speaking of money grabs, I've loved Mötley Crüe since I was in sixth grade in 1982. I'm now 50 and Vince Neil isn't at his best. The people OBVIOUSLY still come out to see him, but the show was best when he left the stage and the band played. Jeff Blando saved the show for me. Incredible talent and anything but bland. That dude rocks right out loud!
Ribfest - venders were great. Still pretty pricey based on what you get but not unexpected. We tried four different vendors -The ribs were great and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the entire day.
Overall, nice job Mankato. This event has shown steady improvement...
Read moreWhen I was little my dad & I would go fishing from the bank of the river, I caught an 8 pound northern when I was 8 years old, so that in itself was very memorable to me.
We found old bottles along the shore & even saw soft shell turtles. It was always a very special place.
My dad passed away suddenly on May 10th, 2022. I was devastated but I made the decision to always honor him any way I could.
I moved here to Mankato on March 23rd, 2023. I visit the river almost every day, all though the river is high right now with the spring snow thaw, I still sit on the bank, wander the trails, ride bike and write poetry and really embrace all the little things of spring time and Mankato. I have also met a very special man that has helped me in every way. I couldn't be more grateful.
I will continue to add pictures from the park as it turns...
