Disappointing. The cost and quality of the food was not worth being treated rudely and unprofessionally by the server who was helping out our main server and having my to go box thrown away after I left and called about it 5 min later.
There was a misunderstanding/miscommunication with my food. I'd ordered the fettuccine alfredo and I picked the option to add shrimp - the main server asked me how many shrimp I wanted and I asked how many standardly came with it for the price listed and she said "six shrimp but you can get less" so I said that was just fine and I'd have the 6 shrimp. My food came out and there were only 3 (they were jumbo shrimp which I didn't know but I still thought I would be paying for 6 so I wanted 6) I thought maybe someone else had ordered the same thing but only got 3 shrimp so I thought our plates had been swapped so I got her attention and said "oh hey I'd ordered 6 shrimp with mine" and she said she'd get the rest to me. A different server brought out my shrimp some time later and she was kinda rude when she sat them down: "here's your...shrimp" and she looked me up and down and I felt uncomfortable and confused. She continued to be subtly rude to me for the rest of the night (scanning over me, asking the people around me if they wanted a to-go box but not asking me and then when I asked her for a to go box for me and my friend she never brought them out. My friend had to flag down and ask the main server while she was getting our bills and tell her what happened). When I got my bill I noticed it said /add 3 shrimp/ under my entree and it was the same price that I had thought the 6 shrimp came with since that's what the server told me. So I saw where the miscommunication was and why the other server was rude because she might have thought I was trying to get 3 extra shrimp for free but that wasn't the case and she didn't know the situation AND regardless...she should have acted professionally. When I left I'd forgotten my to-go box, I live less than 5 min away from the restaurant so I kind of expected them to still be clearing the table and if they had finished I'd expected an "up-scale" place like this to have the decency to put leftovers in the fridge at least until the end of the night - I called as soon as I got out of the car only to hear that they had "just thrown it away."...
Read moreI would like to start my review by saying I have had several good experiences at Number 4 in the past. However, today's experience was horrible. A friend and I decided to try their breakfast this afternoon and I most definitely will not go for there for breakfast again. We first ordered two bloody Marys which were very good. For my meal, I ordered the French toast and my friend chose the breakfast sandwich. Our food took forever to come and it was quite obvious that it had sat under a heating lamp for a questionable amount of time. My syrup was shriveled and so thick that it wasn't even spreadable, let alone thin enough to pour. It was also as if the French toast was dehydrated. The cheese on my friend's sandwich was hard and the meat was so dry. The bartender who also served as our waiter was extremely considerate and told us he would comp our food and also offered to have our meals remade. We declined the food. He then brought us our check for our two bloody Marys. The manager then came over. We re explained our complaint. She proceeded by arguing about how there was no way our food had been sitting for too long. She brought us a new bill only discounting our food. She tried to take the other bill possibly thinking we hadn't looked at it yet. In the end we paid only for our drinks and left extremely dissatisfied. Our waiter was a fantastic example of great customer service and did his best the correct the mistake. The manager was the polar opposite of good customer service and made us feel like our expectations were too high. When I'm dropping $20+ for my bill alone I believe the service should...
Read moreI want to love No. 4 but it’s just not there yet. The a la carte menu offers flavorful fare but at extortionate prices. The sandwich etc menu tries hard. The happy hour is a flirtatious rip off where half price literally mean half portions - rough when the regular dish is 5 shrimp.
The atmosphere is amazing. Theatrical curtain clad booths and a huge bar taking center stage. But Number 4’s inflated opinion of itself is what truly wrecks its credibility and the diner’s experience. Staff seem caught up in the celebrity of the place. Basic apps and an upsell on dessert (well they said ‘ganache’) had us there for almost 3 hours while our chatty server alternated lengthy absences with uninvitedly oversharing & missing all the standard server/diner cues when the long anticipated food finally arrived.
The bill with tax & tip was around $40 EACH for a small app, a shared dessert & a cup of Folgers. And this illustrates the heart of the problem with No.4.
The fresh flavorful explosion of tuna poke is $13 in a packed & popular upscale eatery on lake Minnetonka. At No 4 in this small rural town it’s $26. And no lake. Although housed in an Art Deco architectural marvel of an office building, No 4 is merely a tenant. And the building shares an alley with the strip club.
Ultimately this could be a great restaurant/ bar. But perspective is badly needed. Drop the ego, train your staff, cut the shiz and get real with your pricing. Bring out food in under the time it would take to drive to Lake Minnetonka & back, and No. 4 will be a thriving mainstay for...
