I fully recognize that everyone is short staffed right now, but after considering writing this review all day, I decided I should.
When we got there, we waited for almost 6 full minutes at the “please wait to be seated” sign. The bartender saw us and another couple, but did not come over or acknowledge us(she looked busy but not frazzled- I doubt seating customers is her job.) a man eventually walked over to us and said, pretty gruffly (honestly wasn’t sure if he worked there?) “if you want to sit out here, I couldn’t tell you how long the wait is. If you want to sit inside, go find a table. If you just want two, right here works.” We were a family of four with two young kids. We obviously weren’t going to just be two.
Once we sat down, a waiter /bartender came over to get our drink order. Again, it took about 10 mins for him to come over, so we were ready to order food, and he took our food order. Cannot stress enough- he did say “thanks for dealing with the wait today, we didn’t think we’d be this busy.” And he was very kind, but they weren’t that busy, honestly. The bar area was not completely full, they had four servers that I saw running the outside, and one bartender inside. Plus two different runners that brought us food and drink. Maybe the kitchen was slammed /understaffed.
We ordered three apps and it was almost 1.25 hours before we got our food. When we got it, the nachos we ordered were cold. We were seated in the screened in area and overheard that man who greeted us at the door get into it with three different servers.
I used to go to Tobias Frogg frequently before they changed owners about five-six years ago. Their food was SO MUCH BETTER. They used to have AMAZING nachos and these nachos were not good (not even because they were cold)
We did get drinks, but our bill was $84 and we didn’t even get waters. My 5 year old was legitimately asking, loudly (as five year olds do) “mommy, do you think they will give us our food soon?” And “mommy I’m so so thirsty!” But I don’t think anyone heard him- and they never checked on us until the bill came.
The whiskey crush I got was not good- just tasted like fruit juice. My husband enjoyed his watermelon lime crush.
Like I said, everyone we interacted with was kind (except for that random guy who sat us- I think he was the owner, honestly. ) He sat and drank at a table with friends? And said “I didn’t know I was working today. Didn’t know!”
But $84 for cold nachos, greasy mustard with a pretzel, no waters, meh food, and over an hour to get food is an abomination.
Also, they put all their work into the patio- the inside looks dilapidated. They should consider painting? Cleaning? The brief amount of time I spent inside when I went to go to the bathroom - it was filthy in there. Def very run down compared to when I used to frequent...
Read moreOverall, I really liked this place! I decided to go during the evening on Veterans' Day. They were offering a 50% discount for vets, so good for them! Thanks so much for that.
Overall, the experience was great. The lady behind the bar was pleasant, friendly, and attentive. The sign at the door said to proceed to the bar, so I was eating there instead of a dining room. It had a bar feel to it. The televisions were tuned to the sports channels, and there were quite a few. I did have to ask for a hockey game to be displayed -- golf isn't my thing. :-)
Their menu is pretty nice! They have lots of bar-type items, so if you were to come in late for some munchies, this would be a great place. Their prices were pretty comparable to others. They also had a few burger choices. Along with those items were some nicer entrees, and I opted for a sausage/pepper/pasta dish. The prices was $21 which I felt was overpriced considering that I didn't get any sides with it and considering the atmosphere. This is the main reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 -- the main entree menu just didn't fit the decor and my expectations. However, I will say that the dish was absolutely delicious! I'd get that over an Olive Garden dish any day of the week (which makes me feel a little guilty about not giving this place 5 stars).
If they decided to make this place a little more up-scale, I can justify spending the money on the food for the main entrees. Otherwise, I'd stick with the burger and bar menu. However, the server did let me know they were changing the menu soon, so things may be different. But, again, the food was delicious! Not bland, served hot, and it wasn't a skimpy portion. If you're heading out after work for a beer and some decent burgers or wings, I'd recommend this place in...
Read moreI had a mixed experience. The wait staff was very helpful and attentive for the most part. For it being around 4 PM on a Sunday I didn't expect it to be so busy, yet I was seated immediately. The host told me my waiter would be with me soon, with utensils etc. He appeared shortly thereafter but never brought any utensils (I had to borrow some from a nearby table after my food was served) and ask for napkins. The food got served all at once (the appetizer being served less than 20 seconds before the entte‘). The side I ordered came cold (sauteed mushrooms which I tried immediately after being served). On the plus side, even though I didn't complain about the side, they didn't charge me for them 🤷. I ordered the Frogg's Leggs. I've never had them before so I'm not sure if my opinion is valid here, but the waiter said they tasted like chicken (everyone says this); they didn't really. They were a bit on the tough side also so, until I try them elsewhere, I don't know if this is the just "how they turn out" or if they'd been overcooked (this is why I no longer order calamari anywhere but in the best restaurants as they always overcook them). Some of the chips in the appetizer were "less than crisp" (somewhat leathery, in fact). The price paid for the food served was a little on the high side (but not extremely so). One more thing, for being a "bar", their beer selection was a bit skimpy (or the waiter was unfamiliar with the selection, I'm not sure which). All in all, the experience was positive but it could have...
