Absolute worst cooks at this location that fail to get a simple medium rare steak right. If a steak isn't cooked right once in a while people are human and make mistakes but 3 times in a few weeks is ridiculous. Few weeks ago over cooked the steak almost no pink and they brought out a new one. Last week came out completely well done so not like they're missing by one cook level so no excuse for well done when ordering medium rare. They brought out a new one completely raw barely cooked inside and claimed cook was worried about over cooking....they threw it back on and still went over medium rare slightly but accepted it. Tonight was the absolute worst ordered medium rare came out raw and purple so she took it back and took forever to come out well done that the center was as dark brown as the outside. They offered to cook me a new one which I thought no way could even someone disabled could mess up again...sure enough completely raw....this time kitchen manager came out and decided to fix it herself and apologized and comped it off the bill...I cut it infront of her and parts did look medium rare so kept it until other parts of the steak were completely raw and cool still which i have no clue how she even accomplished that. They clearly have untrained cooks working here and most likely allow them to work high as would be no other explanation unless the cooks are mentally challenged to screw up that many times. Came to the reviews to see how big of a problem this is here currently and stemming back years ago so the fact that management haven't corrected this by now shows you a lot. Family waited an hour after they ate already for the multiple steaks from Cletus in the back only to not be able to eat the last one. There is zero excuse to no only mess up a steak 6 times in 3 weeks but to be so untrained that you overshoot polar opposite cooking levels to such a severe degree back and forth. Cooks can develop a feel of when steaks are done which they are definitely no where capable of that so meat thermometers are supposed to be used to determine doneness...no excuse for someone not be able to read a thermometer ontop of that if they're using one no excuse to be THAT far off Everytime. If you are thinking of going here for steaks or any meat I'd HIGHLY avoid extremely...
Read moreOrdered takeout. Got every single appetizer on the menu so this is a different kind of review. First off I asked for 4 sets of silverware and didn't get any but homegirl didn't forget the bread and was very conscious about the bag tipping when I was driving so we can easily forgive. Now I'll go into each app individually but before I want to add that the portion sizes were solid, the bread was excellent, and the sauces that came with each were top notch.
Starting with the favorite and best, the Texas Onion thing was a 10 out of 10 and better than almost any onion ring you've had. The batter had nice flavor, they were still crispy even though it was fried and togo, and the sauce was awesome.
Next favorite was the popcorn shrimp one, 9.5 out of 10. Again the ranch dill sauce was excellent and the peppers gave the dish a nice vinegar cut. Extra 0.5 on the score for the amount of shrimp for the price, this was by far the best deal of the bunch.
Third favorite was the chicken bites, 8.5 out of 10. Not as spicy as I would have liked and the bites were a little small bit the flavor and abundance of sauce still made these above average.
Fourth we have the wings which were 7.5 out of 10, maybe an 8 if eaten fresh at the restaurant because they were a little dry. They were very average but again these came with two sauces, a buff guy and Blu girl that married nicely together.
Fifth was the wannabe taquito chicken wrap something or other. At best they were a 5 out of 10. Not sure if it was just a bad batch or if it was typical but they were really really salty. Felt my heart rate increase immediately but they were crispy and again the GD sauce was on point.
Finally are the Stuffy Mushies which I have to give an incomplete score on because I don't think they are a good takeout option. They bake them in tinfoil to help the process and they are certainly not cheap with the dish as there seems to be about a pound of cheese in those shrooms, but it was almost too cheesy and not a good balance of flavor. I would definitely try them again in the restaurant but would stay away if ordering take out through no fault of the establishment or kitchen I just don't think they travel well.
Very happy with their performance and I hope this helps anyone out there...
Read moreThe family and I hadn't been here in many months. A few days ago, we wanted some steak for a post-Thanksgiving feast, and gave it a go. We started with their new crab, shrimp and cheese appetizer, and finished with their "Flo's" filet, prime rib, lobster macaroni+cheese, and children's chicken entrées.
All four of us really wanted to finish the (otherwise delicious) appetizer, but could not on account of the INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF SALT it was buried under. Now, I like salt! Soy Sauce? Bacon? You bet; we have plenty of salty food in my house. I'm NOT one to cry foul when it comes to salt. But this... this was in a league of its own.
The two steaks had "a bit less" salt than the crab and shrimp appetizer. The meat itself was of good quality, properly cooked. I made an, "ooh, this is salty" pucker on my face, and somehow made it all the way through my prime-rib. My father ate his filet without issue, but mentioned the salt after the fact.
Both the macaroni and cheese, and the children's entrées were fine. Salads were tasty, but ice cold. The bread loaf seemed about 2/3 the size I had remembered from long ago. The prices seemed lower than I had remembered them, but I couldn't be sure.
The manager came over after the tab was paid, hearing our complaints about the salt. She was unapologetic!!! She went on to praise the saltiness - which she referred to as "highly seasoned" - as being a featured hallmark of the LongHorn brand. Well, I have lots of seasoning at my house, herbs, flavored oils, spices and so on; there are many ways to marinade and season food that does NOT involve burying it in salt. But evidently, the customer is wrong here. That's not how I would run a restaurant.
I was tempted to give this review 2 stars, as you might surmise from the above. But the food quality itself (minus the seasoning) was good, service was acceptable, and the manager did give us a gift card for a free dessert on our next visit. I think she said the steak could be seasoned less, but am not sure; the salty appetizer will remain. Well, there, a free dessert if we want to come back for yet another 'highly seasoned" experience. It is now that I remember just why it was that we hadn't visited in such...
