Big Horn BBQ — Restaurant in Manvel

This is a review I have struggled with. I absolutely love the outside and inside of this awesome place. I do not live in Manvel so I have no idea if they have a steady flow of people to come visit this pristine location. I like the whole gas station, candy store & bbq restaurant concept better than buckees for sure. The homemade chips you can get in the store are so good. The homemade jalapeno bread loaf is the best. The best! So the gas station store is five stars times 20. The Big Horn restaurant is so nice looking. Five stars on how it looks period! The onion rings are a must have. I can't get over them. The seasoning was so good. They are not the huge thick ones but they won me over fast. My family and I are not fans of the bbq sauce. I don't know if they have more than one sauce or not. It is just way to sweet. I love very sweet stuff. It just over took our bbq baked potato. The bbq chopped sandwiches were good minus the sauce but they went way to skimpy on the meat. I am still trying to talk my wife into going back to try their ribs. I do not like ribs but it is her favorite bbq dish. So I hope somehow they can make her a fan but it will be hard with us not liking the sauce. I will be back to try more menu items though either way. I love how they went all out making the place look so darn good. I did not get to try the awesome chocolates from their fancy case. Trust me I had my eye on quite a few. I hope it is just us on not liking the sauce because I never want this place to go away. Oh also, they had an older gentleman singing country music while we were there. His rendition of "Brandy you're a fine girl" would make anyone realize we live in the great...

I would normally have nothing bad to say about Big Horn. Things have been overlooked but this time… I can’t ! I placed an order for a Thanksgiving family meal and added 2.5 of brisket to the order. I did so well before the Thanksgiving holiday.

I arrived to pick up my food the day before Thanksgiving and waited about 30 minutes before the gentleman working “To Go” came out to tell me they ran out of brisket for my order. I was highly upset and irritated because he told me that the person who took my order should have placed a separate order for the brisket. I questioned what he said and then he told me that when they fill orders they only read the top of the order and they never look down at the bottom. I was even more upset because I felt like he was lying to me.

He simply could have said, “we messed up and we’re sorry.” It’s very hard to get mad at someone who takes accountability.

I wanted to know how do you run out of meat for an order placed well before the holiday. Apparently brisket was out at both locations but they were giving brisket baked potatoes and brisket burgers inside the restaurant. How do I know this? I was in the line getting sausage and the customer behind me and her party got those orders filled with no problems.

Needless to say, I needed to make sure I added this review because I was deeply upset at how everything was handled.

Today (5/18/25) at the drive thru, I placed an order at 8:30pm for southwest salad without tomatoes, bacon, corn and tortilla strips due to severe allergies and my order was given to me with bacon on it. Thank goodness I inspected my order before I left because there was an huge issue observed so immediately I notified the drive thru attendant. After waiting for my order to be redone, he handed it back to me and I noticed there were no black beans on it. Again, I notified him there’s still an issue with my salad. He then went back again and returned and stated they ran out of black beans 2 hrs ago. I was wondering why this info was not shared with me at the time I placed my order and/or before it as given to me. Utterly unacceptable !!!! This is ridiculous!! On top of that, my salad had a couple pieces of tomatoes on my salad when the ingredients never called for tomatoes 😳. The Sunday night crew is very insensitive to those of us with severe allergies. After driving off and arriving home, I just threw the entire order in the trash can for fear of being exposed and having an allergic reaction that’ll land me in the emergency room.
