Like many of the other reviews, I too have been a loyal customer of Yu Fong. For the past decade, I have had nothing but praise for this local restaurant. From the initial phone order "Yu Fong, can I help you?" to the meticulous double check of the accuracy of your order before you leave, everything was top notch. I know now that I took for granted the overflowing containers of fried rice or the almond cookie that the owner would slip in occasionally as a treat. The price was always a little higher than the competition, but the fresh ingredients and delicious dishes was well worth it. Fast forward to today. The previous owners sold/retired and current owners are on their way to destroying Yu Fong's legacy. In all fairness, today was the new owners 3rd opportunity to win me over. 3 strikes and unfortunately I'm out. I really wanted to like it, but even the staple chow mien was lacking substance and a completely watery package in a 3/4 full container. The prices are still higher than the competition, and yet the food is subpar. It might seem petty, but it bothers me that the little things like answering the phone with "hello", or not saying thank you when you leave. The first time that I called I had to ask if I had the right number. What kind of business answers the phone with a lowly "hello"? Even their switch to plastic bags and containers is disappointing, displaying that the harm to our environment isn't even noticed. Almond cookie? Forget about it, you won't even get one of those bulk prepackaged fortune cookies...or at least I didn't today. Quality control or cost cuts, either way it shows this is no longer the Yu Fong that we all have come to love. Perhaps the only redeeming quality of this new change in ownership is knowing that the previous owners are enjoying their hard earned retirement. It saddens me to think that the reputation that they worked so hard for over the years can deteriorate so quickly. I'll go mourn...
Read moreMy husband and I moved to Maple Grove from NY almost a year ago, and since being here we (along with my mom) have enjoyed trying a variety of take-out places. We came across Yu Fong on google and saw that it received 4 out of 5 stars...but after our experience tonight, we cannot understand how this is so. We were happy to learn that Yu Fong could prepare dishes without MSG upon request, and they did make good on this promise...Except our food was beyond bland and inedible. If this establishment received 4 out of 5 stars, then they must be relying solely on MSG for their food to be somewhat desirable. In addition, my mom ordered CASHEW chicken...that came without cashews. The nail in the coffin, though, was when I brought the food back to Yu Fong. I returned with the food in its entirety and explained to the hostess that this was our first time ordering, the food was not what we had expected, and that we would like our money back. The hostess was very abrasive, saying that since we ordered without MSG, it would be the exact quality that we received. I explained that while that may be true, we were still dissatisfied with our food and would like a refund. She proceeded to refund the money, but not without griping about how this was costing her and the other employees money. I expressed that I was sorry, but that we would not pay for food that was sub-par. She continued to complain for several minutes until the refund was complete. For anyone interested in ordering here, there are far better take-out restaurants than Yu Fong and I suggest you take your...
Read moreI've been eating here for years and I don't know what, but something has changed dramatically. New owners or management or something because it is not the same place that it used to be! I ordered the Hope Happy family which I've eaten for a very long time, and first of all it used to have scallops in it, there are no more scallops in this dish or anything else, it looks like they've now removed them out of all of their dishes. They replaced the scallops with sliced pork which is a very poor substitute. There is supposed to be shrimp in it, and there were two small, not even medium sized, small shrimp in the entire entree. They decreased the rice portion as well, but the prices certainly haven't decreased. Sad to say that I will not be going back. It used to be so good and so consistent in such a good value, and it doesn't appear to be any of those things anymore. I will be finding a new Chinese carryout option. If I was going to bet, I would absolutely put money on the fact that this restaurant, unless they respond to what they are hearing from their customers, and make some changes, will not be here a...
