Village Ice Cream Parlour — Restaurant in Maplewood

times change and stores change. not always for the better and based on my most recent(and last)visit to this place all I can say is it's time to leave this dump in the dust. let me break it down. I stopped in last Saturday to pick up soft serve and a pint of cookie dough. the service is usually very good. not this time. after having to repeat "vanilla soft serve with sprinkles" five times for whatever reason I noticed chocolate with nothing on it in the cup before it went into a bag. that mildly annoyed me so I pointed at the cup and said "vanilla soft serve with sprinkles I only said it five times" and what his response? "relax buddy!" lol yeah are you kidding me? considering this joint basically sells supermarket ice cream at prices thru the ceiling that type of attitude never works and wouldn't anyway. when I quietly said I would be taking my business elsewhere his wingman jumped in with "that's unfortunate but you were acting a certain way". that is true I suppose since I spoke up but the last time I checked customers are allowed to do so. it's too bad since most of the people are nice but all it takes is one experience like this to change things. better stores are out there and did I forget to mention me and my family were going here on and off for at least 20 years? right they also lost a long time customer who always made sure to leave a tip....

While out looking for silver for a customers photoshoot I came across this place. I was totally surprised this a place like this with such a nice selection of ice cream flavors didn’t have a sitting area. So during this crisis it’s a added benefit. I ordered a milkshake and had a brief discussion about ice cream with a guy named Mark. Very knowledgeable about ice cream, it’s history and the Village area the shop is in. He recommended a pizza shop directly across the street. So I started to consume my shake while waiting on my pizza. The pizza is obviously prepared the old Italian way and was exceptionally delicious. Back to the Milk shake which by now was totally melted. It was just as yummy as milk then when it was a shake. COVID Hypocrites: today, I was asked 2x times to wait outside after waiting in line and waiting for people to exit the store. Interesting that other people entered after me and were NOT asked to leave. Also interesting that the employees are "strictly" enforcing masking and distancing for customers, yet only accept Cash from your hand and DO NOT wear gloves when serving ice cream. When I brought this to one particular employees attention (red curly haired young man) he condescendingly spoke over me and repeatedly told me to "just get out" Mind you, I was masked, distanced and paid I cash. He also had the nerve to say "we all need to make sacrifices in life". Really?! I guess that does not include observing food preparation protocols while handling...
