The Able Baker — Restaurant in Maplewood

Ordered cookies on line the evening before May 4th, and went to pick up in my slot the next morning at 0800 as directed by the square website. I never got a confirmation email that my order has gone through, but they charged my credit card. When I was standing in line waiting to get my order a reversal of the charge came through, so it was like i waited for nothing because I now didn't have an order for anything and I had my funds returned. Another customer who was waiting for their order said that if the website runs out of something (based on their projected inventory?) it will cancel your entire order. While the hot item I had placed the order for were the Darth Vader cookies, I also ordered 2 of each StarWars cookies as well as a dozen chocolate chip cookies. Thankfully I was able to place an order when in line, and in person for the rest of the items. I don’t advise making a same day cake order in store. Although the cake I received was tasty, it wasn’t what I ordered. I specifically ordered a seasonal Pumpkin cake with brown butter spiced frosting which was more money than their typical cakes. I requested an inscription, the usual Happy Birthday with name on the cake and told them the time I would pick it up which was hours later. They took my order, very politely and said no problem. I had to send a friend to pick up the cake because I got too busy setting up for the party, and the bakery gave them a generic cut cake. No writing and definitely NOT what I ordered. I even called after they brought me the cake to correct the mix up but they claimed they didn’t have any other cake connected to my order. Based on reviews I was really excited to try this place. I was on the hunt for a strawberry rhubarb pie,and this place had it. Pulled up and the place was packed I thought great sign!

Couldn’t be more wrong!

For a PIE they charged 30$! It was the WORST most disgusting pie I’ve ever tasted! Shop Rite sells these pies for about 3$ and they tasted so much better than this 30$ overpriced garbage, which is where that pie ended up!I figured at least with the price they charge it should be REALLY GOOD. 👎 The pie didn’t taste anything like a strawberry rhubarb pie. There was a slight taste of strawberry and few pieces of rhubarb and the pie tasted zesty like oranges.Also the pie was soggy. The best part was the crust.

All in all, the worst pie I’ve ever eaten, not worth the price or my time. They are a bakery, they should have this down!
