When I go places, one of my favorite things to do is to try the local food. I ask anyone living in the place who will talk to me about what that might be. In the case of Arizona, I am staying with a wonderful woman who has given me excellent advice in the past, so I knew Iâd get to try some great treats. But, there was one thing I had heard about even as far away as Seattle - Sonoran Dogs. Iâm not a big hot dog eater, but this thing sounded amazing. My wonderful woman friend said that La Carreta Del Rorro was nearby and they would fix me up. We hopped in the car and set out. There was a little problem finding the place. Google said we were there, but we could not see it from the road. Eventually, we noticed a tiny sign pointing to the place and pulled in. Parking was easy and there were tables available even at noon. There is a counter where you order, then a covered patio with a few tables. There are tables outside also, but this Seattle boy is not up to the Arizona sun, so we took a shady spot under the cover. The menu is straight forward. They have a number of Mexican dishes on one side and hot dogs on the other. In the middle is a diagram of how to make a Sonoran dog. They have some variations available such as the Rorry Jumbo that looked delicious, but I was here for the real deal, so I went traditional. In fact, I ordered two. The woman working the counter was very nice. She even put up with my miserable gringo accent when I tried to speak Spanish. The wall was covered with license plates so we played a fun game of âfind our favorite statesâ while we waited for our dogs. We didnât have to go too many rounds before our meal was ready. I picked up the dogs at the counter and fetched some drinks from the cooler. Back at the table, there were plenty of napkins. We made use of a few of them while we ate. There were three sauces - mayo, mustard and jalapeño that dripped all over the place. The sauces added such great flavor that they more than made up for the mess. I donât know where they get their buns, but they need to keep that supplier happy. They were large enough to contain all the ingredients and the bread was the exact right texture to hold together under the load. There was a temptation to eat a dozen dogs. They are cheap and tasty. But, this is Sonoran restaurant week and we needed to save room for other treats. Now that we know where it is, there is a good chance that we...
Read moreSecond time here, the first time was good and we enjoyed the food. Weâve been keeping an eye out for this place since they seem to always be closed. We decided to call today and see if they were open. Well, they were finally open. There were a few families there but not overly packed. We ordered our food and sat down waiting for our order. Once our order was ready a lady walked over with our order and sat it on a table which we were not sitting at, looks at my husband and says⊠âyour order is readyâ leaves it there and walks away. I will post a photo of where we were sitting and in a red circle where she left our tray. Last time we were there, they rang a bell and they didnât today. By now, there was only us and another family. Well, the lights go out and the owner is just walking around not even concerned. So my husband says âexcuse me your lights went outâ and the owner says âyea I knowâ again, no care. It was already dusk and it was hard to see our food. The owners were both rude and you could tell they were being moody for some odd reason. Even while ordering our food, he was very dry. We will...

We found this stationary food truck while on vacation in Tucson â and let me tell you, it was life-changing. We ended up eating there two out of the three days we were in town, and Iâm still mad we didnât find it on day one.
The food? Out. Of. This. World. My mother-in-law loved it so much she asked the cook to move home with her, get married, and be her personal chef. Iâm not sure who was blushing more â her or the cook. đ
The burro percheron is next-level delicious. Think giant steak burrito loaded with all the goodies, then wrapped in bacon. Yes, bacon. One burrito could feed two hungry linebackers or one person who doesnât believe in leftovers. Every bite was pure happiness â like a little piece of heaven in a tortilla.
The staff was awesome â friendly, funny, and totally played along with my mother-in-lawâs antics. It felt like hanging out with friends who just happen to cook better than anyone you know.
Already planning another Tucson trip just to get my burrito fix. Forget souvenirs â Iâm coming home with a food baby and zero...
