Don't like to give out one-star ratings, but the occasion does occur as it unfortunately did today. We decided to try Jardin Corona one more time to see if we had been off during our previous visit. This visit was no exception and confirmed my necessity to make this review.
One would think that a restaurant at approximately 10% capacity could seat folks far enough apart as to have some quiet, private conversation. Right away the hostess attempted to seat us in a booth (we requested a booth and there are approximately 25 of them) directly adjacent to a group of 6 folks already seated. We sat ourselves in a booth some distance from the loud group, much to the chagrin of the hostess.
Drinks were offered shortly, and chips and salsa delivered. The iced tea was warm and had very little ice, which quickly dissolved and was never refilled. I have never had saltier salsa. It was completely inedible, as though someone had dumped an entire shaker of it in our portion. Some cooks evidently love super salty food and make everything to their liking. Makes more sense to prepare with less and allow folks to add their own to taste (maybe that's why they put that fancy little shaker dealio on the table, huh?)
I will shorten this review from here. Chile Relleno was watery and sloppy. Way, way too much mushroom which turns to water when cooked. Tiny portion of rice and refried beans. I will usually mix in some salsa and use chips to scoop up but the salsa was horrible as was the watery relleno.
About the time we received our dinner, a family of 3 was seated next to use. The young boy was obviously not well as he laid down on the bench. Dad was sent out to the car to get the boy's jacket as he was shaking with chills (90 degrees outside). Both mom and dad were coughing and hacking entire time. Heard dad complain about the salsa being too salty. Then dad got on the phone and started selling used cars. Loud, cheesy, sick used car salesman sitting right next to us in a mostly empty restaurant. Nice.
We decided we had had enough and got up from the table and headed for the cashier. Expressed our disappointment with the hostess/cashier who was as flippant as she could be. Couldn't be bothered with our constructive criticism.
Not once did anyone ever offer drink refills or ask how our food was. Highly recommend trying Oli's next block down, although they close mid afternoon, which is why were...
Read moreWas craving margaritas and beef fajita nachos after work, and this place didn't disappoint one bit! I sat at the bar and ordered a margarita, of which I am particular about the ingredients used. Jardin Corona uses fresh lime juice and none of that pre mixed junk for a margarita, so authentic you'd think you were in Mexico! They provided salsa and chips, like most places do, while I waited for the nachos. The salsa was made fresh in house and was perfect! Being my first time eating here, all I can say about the food is that my nachos were great! If you want tex mex food that is more authentic than say...On The Border...this is a great place for that. My service was outstanding...the bartender put my food order in right away, and I didn't have to wait too long. On top of that, he made delicious margaritas using the brand of tequila I requested and the other things... which isn't uncommon but most places don't seem to carry. He was also aware of when my drink was getting low and was good about asking if I needed another, and the resteraunt was pretty busy. All in all, this was a great dining experience and I will be back! Kudos Jardin Corona! Also, I want to add that they have outdoor seating with a nice view of main street if you enjoy that...
Read moreI am so disappointed that I literally just wasted 35 dollars at Jardin Corona. I haven’t been there in over a year because the food was just super bland and I left there questioning if I had Covid because I couldn’t taste the food. After a negative Covid test I just realized that the food was bland and mediocre at best and stopped going there. I used to be a weekly regular there for several years too. Anyway fast forward to today… I decided to give it a shot because I’m house sitting right by there and so I called in an order for the Pechuga Vellena and a chips and queso. The moment I opened the bag I was hit with the smell of cinammon and sugar. I didn’t order any kind of dessert either. I cut into the chicken breast that is breaded and fried and it was so disgusting it made my stomach turn. It has been breaded in like fried ice cream batter or something of the sort. So imagine chicken breast stuffed with shrimp and bacon dipped in dessert batter and fried. So gross. And off to the trash it goes. What happened to this place?! Don’t waste your money here. Go to Olis, or el charro or freaking Burger King before you get your money wasted here. Yuck. I’d say do better, but i don’t think they really care to...
