La Union Bakery is a local landmark, beloved by the community for it's inexpensive, fast, and tasty authentic Mexican food. Maria Nieto and her family, originally from San Luis Potosí, Mexico, opened the first taqueria and bakery shop in 2011 on the site of a former pizzeria on Wiles Road in Coral Springs. Some of the bakery specialities include dyed sugar cookies, guava empanadas, conchas, conas, baguettes, yeast rolls, and their best seller, tres leches cake.
In 2018 they opened this second location in Margate in the El Bodegon shopping plaza on Sample Road. The pastries are made in the original location and brought here. There is a small dining area and along one wall is a stand serving shaved fruit ice creations drenched in condensed milk.
This place is as authentic as it gets. It is food like your Abuela would make. Spanish is the primary language spoken here but the staff speaks English too. I saw a table filled with three generations of a family enjoying their meal. I was fixated on the tacos and I ordered the asada, pollo, and carnitas. They are served in soft flour tortillas with lettuce, tomato, queso fresco crema, cilantro, and lime. I also ordered the pollo flauta and steak nachos. It was a feast. The only problem I had with the food was when my guest bit intro a toothpick left in a pollo flauta. I recommend looking over the food before eating. Other than that you really can't go wrong with anything you order here. The staff was very kind too. They brought me a cup of water while I waited. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, La Union will satisfy...
Read moreI've ordered take out a couple of times because of the Pozole. In our first visit our son wanted a chocolate chip cookie. We added it to our food order and paid. However, while waiting for our food, we noticed flies inside where the breads are stationed. Which happens to be where the cookie was at. We ended up throwing out the cookie because of this. In our 2nd take-out visit this evening, 09/30/23, and while waiting on our food, I noticed a Raid can sitting on top of a stove that is to the right of the cashier's wall. I noticed the cashier place a take-out order on top of this unused stove, right next to the Raid can!! The main prep and cook area is to the left of this stove. And in very close proximity to the unused stove. We get home and start unpacking the soups and accompanying ingredients. I unravel the tostadas and discovered what clearly appears to be left overs of someone's previous meal. I've attached the photo for reference. I am now truly disgusted and appalled at the audacity and lack of hygiene from this place. Please. Do not eat here. I can't even believe this place hasn't been hit with any violations or closures! The service is slow. The dine in area is tight. And it's pricey compared to other similar locations...
Read moreWhat a big disappoinment!!! I went with a group of friends to the location in Sample Rd. It is my first visit to the restaurant. I used to go to the previous Mexican restaurant there ( Takote ). The service and portions are good. Unfortunately we order the Queso with Chorizo, and what a shock.... Velveeta cheese and chorizo ???? It was awful, super salty and two strong flavors that do not go well together. The Posole was Ok with good portions of meat and corn. Not too spicy, but needed more flavor. Sopes were good, but the meat - Carnitas and Carne asada were dry and tasted the same. No difference in flavor. The Tortas were very grease and too much mayonnaise, and again the meat dry and tasteless. I asked the waiter to remove the Queso and Chorizo from our bill because it was awful, but he told me " Sorry that is the way they do it here" and he could not do that. There were a couple sitting next to our group and they told us that they used to come to the previous restaurant and the food was superior and better quality ( I agreed with them). But fortunately, they have the best Mexican sweet bread in all south Florida. Next time I am buying only the...
