This place is truly a gem! It was recommended by Michele from Krisoff’s Kafe! I went in and stood at the door for a little bit of time before being acknowledged! I felt a bit out of place because I had never been there so I waited until I was finally acknowledged. The young lady (German wife- I assume) finally came over and said it would be about a 15 minute wait. I said okay! Well... I waited and while waiting the young man (Italian husband) came through with cinnamon rolls that only a “fool wouldn’t love!🤣😂”. He walked though with them enticing the customers (great up sell 👍). He said “people use fragrances for their places, he uses cinnamon rolls for the aroma there”! He was right... I fell in love 🥰 (with the buns, of course). After being seated shortly thereafter, I looked at the time- it took them a while to come to me! I was trying to figure out was it me?! I didn’t know. Sooo finally I was asked what I would like to drink after being left unattended to! I ordered a bottle of water. The young lady (Aniya?; a teacher) brought it out and other customers were attended to (for takeout) while I waited! Maybe it’s because I never opened my menu 🤷🏽♀️but I knew what I wanted had done my research prior to coming). As always! The young lady finally came over and I ordered the German pancake. She did tell me that it wasn’t traditional pancakes and asked if I had ever eaten them before! I told her yes, in Germany! She said she just wanted me to know they were “eggy!” Fast forward, they came out and were DELICIOUS 😋! I save half for my son to try (and I’m upset with myself because I failed to place them in the fridge when I got home and the egg turned them). They asked me how they were and I said delicious! The husband came out and asked how they were- I told him good! He then told me his wife was German and he was Italian! Well.. let me tell you... German or not- he nailed them!! I will return because I want to try the cinnamon roll French toast! They looked delicious as they passed by me! The cinnamon roll I purchased was delicious!!
Oh and might I add THEY ARE SANITARY!! They have sanitizer at the door with a sign that asks that you sanitize hands before heading to table and I got to witness that each and every menu is sprayed down and wiped (no sticky substances left behind). I will definitely return and hopefully, I can move this up to a 5...
Read moreAs the restaurant advertises, they DO take their food seriously. Arrived around 10:15am or so, which wasn’t too crowded. My family and friend left full and happy. Quality food for great prices. They served lunch before 11:00am too.
When I asked if the corned beef is "shredded", the server immediately replied, "Everything is homemade. It's not canned." I thought, "Whoa, that's real pride for the food right there!"
The servers were friendly and very attentive, always asking if customers need coffee refills. They worked fast, so fast that one server dropped a fork and another dropped garnish. I would probably do the same, if I were serving like 6-8 tables. Still, they get 5 stars for customer service!
The corned beef and hash, with scrambled eggs was delicious. The beef had crispy edges and was not salty. It was definitely HOMEMADE.
My mother’s customized omelette (spinach, mushroom, and tomato) and oatmeal was also good. That oatmeal was probably the best I’ve had at a restaurant! Texture and flavor was just right. The server asked if she wanted brown sugar too.
Both breakfast dishes come with toast, and the server asks if we want butter on it. Again, love the attentiveness!
My father had a steak and cheese sub with french fries. He enjoyed it, as the steak was tender and not dry. All of us tried the french fries, which were crispy and fluffy on the inside, unsalted. When the sides are just as good as the main part of the meal, that means the cook or chef takes pride in his/her food.
I’m glad all of their food had the right amount of salt because if food is too salty, one would probably drink...
Read moreI have been wanting to try this place for awhile now and this morning I finally got the chance. My daughter is down this weekend from college but she is working all day. I wanted to squeeze a little time in with her and I knew she wouldn't turn down a breakfast out.
The Gem is located in a nondescript shopping plaza off of 441 in Margate. It's across from the field that Margate uses to host festivals, concerts, and food truck invasions.
The interior of the restaurant is very small but nicely decorated. I was worried about having to wait but we came on a Saturday morning at 9 AM but we did not have any problems. They are closed Sunday and Monday.
We were instantly greeted, seated, and brought coffee which we both sincerely appreciated. The coffee was on the weak side but I subscribe to the theory that any coffee is good coffee.
We decided to start with the cinnamon roll that stars in so many people's reviews. This is not Pillsbury from a can. It is huge, soft, and drowning in icing. Whatever progress I made with the Lean Cuisine and running this week was instantly undone but it was worth it.
For breakfast we both had the French Toast, bacon, my daughter had eggs and I had the home fries. Everything was fantastic. We ended up ordering way too much food especially after that cinnamon roll but we just boxed the leftovers. The bill was $30 and we had a ton of food.
The Gem Eatery is going to be added to my breakfast rotation . From the outside this place wouldn't have caught my eye but the Yelp reviews were right again, this place is...
