El Balcón de las Américas - Margate — Restaurant in Margate

I’m visiting Florida for the holiday and always want to eat Colombian food the moment I land. We didn’t want to drive all the way to Miami to eat at Versailles so I Googled “best Colombian near me” and this restaurant was listed. I’m super excited to begin with to eat because I normally don’t branch out for Colombian food and their food looked amazing. During this time we arrived, it was the three of us in a empty dining room around lunch time. We thought this would be perfect because we were expecting a full restaurant and we now were able to eat and get our food in a decent timing. That was not the case in our experience. Our server, Dionny was genuinely welcoming and kind. He offered us drinks, their specials, and appetizers to begin with and then we ordered our main entree as soon as we were done. After we had ordered, we noticed the dining room was starting to fill up and throughout the entire time we waited for our food every single person that was seated after us received their food first. Our water was never refilled and we were never checked on again. Every single person that came in after us all left before us. I thought I was overreacting but my friends noticed it as well. Since we were never checked on, we had to walk to the register to get our check ready. My friend and I went at 4 p.m. It wasn't crowded. It was quiet. Well we weren't the only guests there, they treated us as if we were.

The food was made to order. One of us got breakfast; the other got dinner. We both had affogato for dessert. Delicious. Made with espresso coffee and vanilla bean ice cream. A large amount, to share.

Everything was well-priced - the food portion was abundant.

👍 David, the manager, perhaps the owner, I do not know, was delightful. My friend is learning to speak Spanish and so he spoke slowly with her. You made sure we had everything we needed. If we didn't want something that came with a meal, he just deleted it. If we wanted extra or something different, he was accommodating. He was very welcoming!!

I believe in the evening it's probably very crowded, but it's very roomy and you're not sitting on top of each other. I can see families bringing their young children.

The place is unassuming. Not fancy. Casual. Relaxed. Very clean .. we will be going back with my friends teenagers and I am looking forward to going, as well. You'd be surprised, but their mashed potatoes with cheese and corn was the hit of the afternoon!!!

Have been coming to this location for years and after today I will not return the service was horrible did not even get refills on water. Not all the menu items were available and we were not told until after the fact it would be helpful if it was disclosed at the beginning. All food lacked flavor completely and the Chicken was raw for one of the plates and had to be sent back they brought back the same piece which I don’t think is even sanitary? By the time it came back everyone finished eating minus that one person no apology nor compensation was given in fact we waited an extra 15-20 mins for somebody to pay attention to us (waitress chatting at the front) and bring the check and they still automatically added 18% tip to the check. We ordered a sangria and it tasted like a cinnamon bomb could not drink it. Very very disappointing not sure if they are under new ownership the staff doesn’t look like the ones that have been there for years prior that were actually attentive.
