First time going here and I can say the place is spotlessly clean. The service was good although I told him it was may first time at the start. I guess I'm glad I read the signs. Anyways it's extra for fresh mozzarella. Ok fine. But the fresh mozzarella was fresh and could have used more salt. I ordered the meatball w/fresh mozzarella cost for a 6 inch sub 11.75. Way too much money. My husband ordered the sausage and peppers. The sign said spicy sausage today so we ordered spicy. He comes back and says out of spicy and i just told him to make it sweet . I said no thank you and changed it to chicken parm. So here's the review on the food. Chicken parm was ok. Meatball sub had soft meatballs. I like mine without the mushy texture. The gravy (sauce) needed more garlic and basil. Everything needed s&p. The owner came out he was very nice. He asked my opinion and I told him. He has his way I have mine. Also I have had many New Jersey subs never had one on a baguette. I want be back because it was not Jersey style at all. Too expensive.
Response to owner: Ok I see what is going on here you are trying to take an honest review and turn it into an insult directed at myself and husband. First off some customers that choose to review your place of business have a choice as to how they want to describe their experience. As I see it your business is very clean . I also see your business as a business an understand your concern towards your customers lasting thoughts of your business. So let us analyze your comment below. You say we left crumbs in our baskets. To that I reply; I left there hungry . Why? Well the sub was small. Why? Well because first off the picture makes sub look big. There is no size listed. But if I had to make an educated guess with the info I had between the price and picture I was expecting a 12 inch sub. We were very hungry and I bought 2 different ones so we could share and taste each others. I have to give him my other half so as he would not be starving on the long trip back to Tennessee.I could have ate both piece of that sub and that is saying a lot. Why? The meatballs are small and the baguette is about as small a round as a Redbull can. So yeah I left hungry. For the $35.00 dollars I spent there I should have been full and maybe even leftovers. Ok the taste. Number one I did not say anything about oregano. My husband made that comment. The food is bland. No if's or but's about it. No smell of garlic or basil or baking bread when you walk in the door. Certainly no smell of spicy ( or sweet)Italian sausage & peppers cooking. The place is sterile. If you remember like you say you do our conversation I said I ordered hot cherry peppers and the guy brought me hot cherry pepper relish. Not what I ordered and you have a picture of HOT CHERRY PEPPERS. I said that is like Jersey Mike's you said yes and I said yeah I do not like the relish I like the whole hot cherry peppers. Also I would not knock Jersey Mike's for one thing it is actually more like Jersey subs than whatever you are trying to sell as Jersey . Been to Jersey. I know your sub is "NOT" a Jersey sub. My husband commented back to you and included the cannolis. Yeah they have like 4 chocolate chips in the filling and I had forgotten we even ordered them that is how unforgettable the cannolis were. The pasta salad consisted of pasta, mayo and something crunchy maybe onion? No s&p nothing. That is what anyone would describe as BLAND food. Just for sh*ts and giggles we stopped at a Subway yesterday for the first time in 10 years and split a meatball. Now we did this to be able to make an honest comment back to you. It was hot, tasty and 12 inches. However there was no difference is the circumference of your meatball sub to Subway's. Funny thing is I was full. Your mozzarella needs salt. See you came to our table on your own and asked my opinion and you can not take criticism. Why is there no females workers? If think your place is as great as you think it is, then you should not have to worry about a few...
Read moreSome of the most delicious food I have every had in my entire life. Seriously, I dream about this place. Everything is perfect, the food, the atmosphere and the owner Johnny Pizza is a great guy, a true Gentleman.
Whenever my wife and I get the opportunity to eat at Hoboken Cafe, I always get a Meatball Sub and my wife gets the Chicken Parmesan Sub. We both also get some Macaroni salad and some Coleslaw. Don't forget the Cheese Cake!
The Meatballs are tender and delicious. The sauce (aka-Red Gravy) has a delicious flavor with a nice acidic bite to it. The Bread has a nice crispy crust and is pillow soft on the inside. Then there is the Mozzarella Cheese that is delivered daily by Angels from Heaven. Just kidding, the owner Johnny Pizza makes it fresh in house.
The Chicken Parmesan Sub is also amazingly delicious and and is made the same way as the Meatball Sub, except it has a crispy, juicy and tender chicken fillet covered in sauce and Heavenly mozzarella, on that pillow soft bread with a crispy outer layer.
Then there is the Pies De Resistance, the Cheesecake. Let me elaborate, this is not just the best Cheesecake I have ever tasted in my life. This Cheesecake is some of the best food I have ever tasted in my life. Seriously, this is the Cheesecake by which I will judge all other Cheesecakes for the rest of my life.
