Overpriced, very disappointing experience.
While there was potential for this dining experience to be really lovely, there were so many things that went wrong, and there no managers nor chefs who attempted to apologize or repair the situation.
We went for New Year’s Eve Dinner (12/31/21), having reserved the pre fixe menu, after ensuring we would be able to enjoy a pescatarian entrée.
We were positioned at an extremely small, cramped table against the wall. Our waiter was only on his third day on the floor, and had been assigned to work a busy New Year’s Eve. While he attempted to do his best, he was not prepared to serve this type of dining experience on such a high profile night. Additionally, one of the food runners did not know what she was serving us. After placing the dishes (2nd course) in front of us, I asked her to please describe what she had just placed and she did not know what it was. The 3rd course (main) took about 30 minutes to arrive after the 2nd. We finally had to ask about it, and when it came out, it was the non-pescatarian option. How does this happen when we specifically call, make a reservation, and are told having fish would be absolutely no problem? Finally, a floor manager brought out the fish entree, however he said nothing. He barely left the food, no acknowledgement about our delayed and non-personable evening and lack of service, he just dropped the food and left.
All of these things are really unacceptable for a dining experience, especially on such a high profile evening, and at such a nice and (in theory) well-respected establishment. It is such a shame that management accepts this level of service. We selected the Salt Wood Kitchen based on reading very high reviews about the service and food, however were were extremely disappointed in the value of the service, and overall experience. The food itself was overall okay, but not outstanding. While we are not local, it is unfortunate that our one-time, special treat dinner was our one experience with the restaurant. We understand that sometimes things go wrong, and some things just aren't perfect, however the lack of attention to the mishaps really left us with a bad taste...
Read moreUnless you want to get sick stay away from this place. While this place had a very nice interior. The food is absolutely horrible. While the Oysters (they were out of bluepoints on Christmas eve, how do you let that happen?) may be good they gave three family members food poisoning. Their overuse of tarragon is many of their dishes makes most of it inedible, including, their mac and cheese, and some of their sauces, as well as ON A DESSERT a apple cake dessert. Their server was poorly trained, we had to ask repeatedly for the special, and he did not mention the daily catch, and did not describe how it was prepared. I had the Red Snapper, for two and shared it. It was the most disgusting fish I've ever had, ( I eat fish regularly). The presentation was absolutely horrible. They make you take out the own meat and serve it whole. They put COLD veggies on top of the fish which just makes the fish cold it self. The fish had no flavor and just tasted absolutely not fresh at all, I am unaware how anyone could enjoy it especially trying to dig through all the bones themselves just to have a tiny fish feed two. The polenta was bland and boring. the side of squash was the only edible thing. While the server was nice, he couldn't listen when after I ordered just to get some food, Was Mac and Cheese no crab no seafood with it, couldn't bring me what I asked for (They have just regular mac and cheese.) The Mac and Cheese with the crab was just gross, with heaps of tarragon on the top trying to hide their poor crab. As well as the dish I had a few others were served and crafted poorly, such as the cioppino, which wasn't set in any kind of sauce, and the steak asked for Med. Rare, came out extremely rare. I honestly don't know how any chef could serve what they gave us, I wonder if had even tasted what they had made. They chef may be trying to be creative but all the creations were absolutely disgusting, if this restaurant wants to survive they need to hire a whole new set of chef's including a new head chef because clearly none of them know what...
Read moreThis might be the worst restaurant at which I've eaten. My husband and I stayed at The Sanctuary Resort where Salt Wood is located. We ordered room service. My husband ordered a hamburger and I ordered a dinner that was supposed to have fish, potato and vegetable. Room service was fast however I didn't receive a meal and we received no utensils with which to eat, not to mention no condiments such as salt or pepper or, for the fries, ketchup. I basically received a piece of fish with less than a tablespoon of greasy potato puree and what looked equivalent to 2 cooked celery sticks in a small, plastic to go container. Even though I had just worked all day and traveled 3 hours to get to the resort, I walked to the restaurant in sweats to get my dinner fixed. I asked to speak with the manager. He told me he was sorry we didn't get silverware but that the fish was served as intended and that they don't send condiments. He offered to send me something else for my dinner. I told him I was interested in a "dinner: protein, starch and vegetable". He recommended the salmon to which I agreed. I went back to our room to wait for my dinner to find that my husband couldn't eat his hamburger because it was raw (he ordered it medium). When my fish came it was served only with rice, no vegetables. I thought there was a side of eggplant and started to eat it with the fish and found it strange. My husband determined it was actually "apple pie", however, it was so greasy I'm surprised it's served as a dessert. The manager also sent 2 other desserts I guess trying to please us. We didn't want dessert though, we wanted dinner, with silverware and condiments considering we were not at home in our kitchen. (The chocolate cake that was sent was tasteless. The blood orange creme brulee was good.) The manager told me before I left the restaurant that my fish would be comp'd. When leaving the hotel today we saw the entire meal was actually comp'd, which was appropriate considering neither my husband nor...
