I wanted to order a birthday cake for my 21st birthday and when I went in to order my cake the owner was not there so I had to speak to the young girls that were working. I wanted my cake to be a Barbie cake that looked like the Barbie was “throwing up” sprinkles and to have a few of the little airplane bottles of alcohol on them as well (which I offered to purchase both of those items myself and bring in) since it was my 21st birthday. The girl who was taking my order was making unnecessary comments the entire time, as well as making comments about herself, and comments about how I wanted MY cake to look like, which I thought was extremely rude. She then proceeds to tell me that the owner is a Christian and probably wouldn’t be comfortable putting the alcohol on my cake, that if I wanted the little bottles on there that I would have to do that myself. I was really taken aback by this, and thought that it was extremely unprofessional. I do not believe as a business owner that you should involve your personal beliefs and religion in your business first of all. Second of all, I do not appreciate the way the girl was making me feel like I should be shameful for even asking for this!! She made it seem like I was doing something illegal just by asking for alcohol on my 21st birthday cake!!! I should have walked out and went somewhere else, but I didn’t have any other options in the moment so I decided to place the order for the cake anyway, and would figure out how to put the little bottles on my cake myself(which I don’t think I should have to do considering how much they charge for cakes that I would have to decorate myself anyway). I ordered to pick this cake up on my actual birthday at 11am and the girl took my name and number and said I would receive a text confirming the order that day or possibly the next morning. I never received a text. Never heard from the business at all!!! Due to this, I don’t even get to have a cake on my birthday. I was extremely disappointed because I was really looking forward to this cake. On top of all this, while I was in the shop I decided to purchase a lava cake and a dessert bar. It was all extremely dry and gross. I threw it away. I will not be coming back to this bakery and I highly don’t recommend anyone else come...
Read moreI ordered a cake via phone communication because I would be flying into town from Las Vegas the following week. The 3 layer cake was ordered for my mothers 91st birthday. I ordered a red velvet cake with fresh strawberries & cream cheese whip between the layers.
I stayed in communication with Renee ( owner) through text and phone call. I requested a plain vintage cake without their fake flowers as I was purchasing fresh flowers for the decor.
When I arrived in Marion on Tuesday , I went into the shop to communicate to Renee how I wanted the lettering positioned on the cake because I was placing the fresh flowers on them on Thursday when I would be picking up the cake.
On Thursday when I picked up the cake, I was happy with the presentation of the cake but surprised that the writing was in black. I should have communicated the color of the lettering I wanted but never thought BLACK would be her choice for a woman’s cake. I made the best of it and placed my fresh flowers on the cake.
Review on the cake ….. it was extremely dry. Not moist at all. And there was hardly any strawberries or frosting between the layers so when you sliced the cake, the layers separated. My mother said she didn’t even see any strawberries. I seen them but very little were distributed throughout each layer.
I texted Renee the following day and shared my thoughts. I gave her my constructive review on the quality of the cake and hoped she would not take it as an insult to her bakers but use it for improvement in the future. Not a word have I heard back from the owner.
I was in Black mountain yesterday at the Dripolator coffee shop and one of the baristas preparing my latte shared with me after I shared with her my trip to Marion for my moms birthday and where I ordered her cake from, that she didn’t care for Chance of Sprinkles because her cake she ordered was extremely dry.
I hope the owner will take this review as constructive advice and possibly change the recipe on her cakes. Always communicate back to the customer regardless of the review. Take this as Growth in her...
Read moreI used to be a faithful customer for this bakery. I have used her every year for a long time. I have a business myself and I always answer people. She has never been very personable which I always thought was strange for someone in her line of work. Every time I have messaged her for a cake, I have had to message multiple times because she doesn't answer. Yet it has always been put on the schedule. So when I messaged her this year, ahead of time mind you, I thought she is just being weird again and it's likely on the schedule, but I kept messaging until I got an answer, like I always do. This time she waits until the last second, after 3 different times of me reaching out to say she is booked. I would not have an issue with it if she had told me when I first messaged and gave me adequate time to find someone else to do it. Instead she doesn't so I am making it myself. I have used her for many years for not so cheap cakes but last year will be the last. If I were able to call or go by I would but my work schedule is the same as her business hours and I always message. She is not very responsive and the last cake was dry but I figured it was a one off anyway. If you want to continue having a business you need to be more personable and answer people when they reach out. That is no way to run a business and I always thought it seemed odd I had to message you a ton to get a response. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. And so will the rest of my family. You lost a...
